  1. This will be a bit different.  How well do you know Fred Astaire movies?  From the co-stars, costumes, and scenery, can you name the movies that these photos are from?

Very good, Princess.  You're definitely smart enough for this game.

  3. Yes, that's the one, Star.  Part of the movie's plot involves the Gerry Society, which was formed to limit child labor hours.  In the film, as in real life, the parents tell the Society that the fellow billed as their son is actually an adult midget.

Nice work, Starlit.  You're up next.

  4. Here are a few more:

#2 - Ultra Brite, Cheryl Ladd.  If she was going to replace Farrah Fawcett on "Charlie's Angels", she might as well replace her on the toothpaste adds.

#8 Barbie Dolls.  The only young girl on the list is Maureen McCormick, so this was easy.

#10 Camay Soap - Who's left on the list that would be a likely choice?  I think Jaclyn Smith would be the one.

    #15 Ritz Crackers - It's Andy Griffith

#16 Dodge Dart - I remembered that Dodge was at one time a sponsor of "The Lawrence Welk Show", so a commercial featuring the Lennon sisters was a natural occurrence.

#17 Marineland Of The Pacific - The Munsters

    I left a few unsolved, #3, 5, 12, 13, and 14.  Anyone else want to try?

  5. Loretta Young -You're really getting into this game, Lav.  Keep'em coming.

    Next: A person's name.

In "The Music Man", Miss Shinn's Favorite Expression Was "___ Gads!" + Surname Of Sisters Rosemary, Lola, And Priscilla (There They Are Again) + Slang For No + French For Green + "____ The Hustle" + 50's Hit Song "Let Me ____, Lover"

  6. Lucile Watson - Nice clues.  I wonder how many folks here remember "What's Happening"?

  7. Gena Rowlands - Nice clues, Lav.

Lavender, I suppose we could do film titles.  The only thing that I would ask is that before posting clues, the poster states whether it is a film title or a celebrity name.  I would also hope that the film title would be of the classic era vintage.  Remember, this is a classic film message board and most people who view these threads are the same ones who watch classic movies on TCM.

Next:  This is a celebrity name.  This person has been seen on TCM many times.

Line From Old Song, "Does Your Mother Know You're Out , _________, Does She Know That I'm About To Steal Ya" + Early Pacino Film "The Panic In Needle _______"+ Tom Selleck Film "______ Alibi"

  8. I'll try a couple.

#1 Coppertone was endorsed by many celebrities.  The original add of the little girl losing her trunks used Jody Foster as the model.  This list includes Barbara Eden and Michael Callan as Coppertone endorsers.

    bx1ce-1466196095-embed-coppertone_3.jpg

#4 Top Brass was endorsed by Barbara Feldon "Get Top Brass And Sic 'em".

#6 Sugar Frosted Flakes - since Kellogg's sponsored "The Adventures Of Superman", I'll guess that George Reeves did commercials for them.

#7 Campbell's Soup sponsored "Lassie", so I think that June Lockhart and Jon Provost did commercials for them, as well.

#9 Kodak - You have Kodak in both lists.  I think you meant to put Ozzie and Harriet Nelson in the second list.  Kodak sponsored their show and they, along with David and Ricky, did Kodak commercials.

#11 Cover Girl - That had to be Cybil Shepherd.

  9. Connie Gilchrist - The last clue was not exactly a sound-alike clue, but it sufficed.

  10. Ooh, Ooh Arturo.  I think I finally got one right away.  I think its Anacani, the pretty Mexican singer and actress who used to sing on "The Lawrence Welk Show".

  11.

You are correct, Lavender.  I watched "Make That Spare" occasionally since it was on late on Fridays and that was not a school night.  I had no idea at the time that Johnny Johnston had been a singer and actor in movies.  I came up with this question after answering one in the "Briefly Lyrical" thread that involved Johnny Johnston.  Here he is in a short clip from "Make That Spare":

Here he is in a clip from "Rock Around The Clock".  For the youngsters out there, this is how kids danced in 1956.

The female dancer, actress Lisa Gaye, was the sister of actress Debra Paget.

Nice work, Lavender.  The thread is yours.

  12.

In the early sixties, they used to show boxing matches on the ABC network on Friday nights at ten o'clock.  A ten round fight would normally take no more than forty-five minutes, so to fill up the hour, ABC had a fifteen minute bowling show where professional bowlers would compete to make tough shots suggested by viewers.

The host was a former actor and singer in forties movies who made a bit of a comeback in a fifties rock and roll movie. What was the name of that show and who was the host?

  13. That is "That Old Black Magic", which was written by Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer.  It was introduced by Johnny Johnston in the 1942 all-star revue movie "Star Spangled Rhythm".  I couldn't find a movie clip, but here is the soundtrack recording:

  14. Valentina Cortese, who we just lost recently.  Very nice, Lavender.  Let's hope we see many more of these posts from you.

  15. Can you name the musical that was based on, or should we say inspired by, the early career of Buster Keaton?  There's lots of old songs and lots of dancing in this film.  And no, it's not "The Buster Keaton Story" with Donald O'Connor.

  16. Lola Falana -  Arturo,  I had no idea what the first clue was and for  "____ Grange" all I could think of was Red Grange, the legendary football player.  If we want more participation, we need more easily recognizable clues.

    Next:

Singer Who Gave Us "Oh, Sweet Pea, C'mon And Dance With Me" + Oscar Winning Actor In "Judgement At Nuremberg" + Paul Newman And Patricia Neal Starred In "_____" + Bob Hope Shared A Bed With Trigger In "_____ Of Paleface"

  17. Irene Dunne was in five movies with music by Jerome Kern:

Sweet Adeline (1934), Roberta (1935), Show Boat (1936), High, Wide, And Handsome (1937), and Joy Of Living (1938)

She was in three movies with Randolph Scott:

Roberta, High, Wide, And Handsome, and My Favorite Wife.  Of the three, My Favorite Wife was not a musical.

Randolph Scott also appeared in the musical Follow The Fleet, with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, but that one had music by Irving Berlin.

Irene Dunne had appeared in a stage production of Show Boat before she became a movie star.

Jerome Kern died in 1945.  His movie biopic, Till The Clouds Roll By, was released in 1946.

  18. The song is "How Little We Know".  It was written by Hoagy Carmichael and Johnny Mercer and was sung by Lauren Bacall in "To Have And Have Not".

There  was a rumor at one time that her singing in this movie was dubbed by a young Andy Williams, but that was not the case.

Ann B. Davis won two Emmy awards playing Schultzy on "The Bob Cummings Show" (AKA "Love That Bob") in the late fifties.  In the early sixties, she appeared in the Doris Day movie "Lover Come Back".  In the mid-sixties, she was in a very forgettable series called "The John Forsythe Show".  Of course, from 1969 to 1974 she was Alice the housekeeper on "The Brady Bunch".  After many TV versions of the Brady kids grown up, she appeared in the nineties movie "The Brady Bunch Movie" playing a trucker named Schultzy.

Did you know that she had a twin sister?

This a promotional shot from "The Bob Cummings Show".  Her sister, Harriet Norton, was not an actress, but their mother, Marguerite Davis, was a stage actress for more than thirty years.
