  3. Yes, Jackie Gleason presented "The Honeymooners" as a recurring feature of the "Cavalcade Of Stars" variety show in the early fifties. Art Carney played Ed Norton, Joyce Randolph played Trixie Norton, and veteran actress Pert Kelton played Alice Kramden. A few years later, "The Hpneymooners" had their own series for a full season of thirty-nine episodes. Nice work, Lavender. It's your thread.
  4. Before Audrey Meadows played Alice Kramden to Jackie Gleason's Ralph, another actress played Alice on TV with Jackie. Later, when Audrey played the part, this other actress guested as Alice's mother. Who was this other actress?
  5. Recasting of roles was quite common in radio shows. In fact, some radio shows became TV shows and the practice of recasting continued for a while. Clayton Moore played "The Lone Ranger" on TV, but he had a contract dispute one year and missed an entire season. He was replaced by John Hart as the masked man. Most kids watching probably didn't know it was a different actor. Jay Silverheels continued as Tonto. Moore eventually came back and replaced Hart. George Reeves and Phyllis Coates starred as Superman and Lois Lane, respectively, in a movie called "Superman And The Mole Men", which served as a pilot for the TV series "The Adventures Of Superman". Phyllis Coates played Lois Lane for the first season, then left to make movies. She was replaced by Noel Neill, who had played Lois in a late-forties serial. "The Burns And Allen Show" featured neighbors Blanche and Harry Morton. Blanche was played by Bea Benaderet for the entire run of the show, but Harry was played by three actors, Larry Keating, Fred Clark, and Hal March. One show that I don't remember personally was "Beulah" from the early fifties. I have read about it, though. It was on for about three years and most of the cast was replaced at least once, sometimes twice. The title character, Beulah, was played by Ethel Waters, Louise Beavers, and Hattie McDaniel. Most people on these boards probably remember "Petticoat Junction" in the sixties where Billie Jo Bradley was played by Jeanine Riley, Gunilla Hutton, and Meredith MacRae. Bobbie Jo Bradley was played by Pat Woodell and Lori Saunders. Of the three sister characters, only Linda Kaye Henning as Betty Jo stayed for the entire run of the show.

  7. Is #1 Virginia Grey? Is #8 Phyllis Calvert? Is #9 Mary Carlisle? Mary Carlisle was one of the Stars Of Tomorrow in 1933. You can see her in this short clip along with Ginger Rogers, Gloria Stuart, and several others. That's Johnny Mack Brown with the artist.

  9. This one should be pretty easy. For every boy who passes me I shout "Hey, maybe,You were meant to be my loving baby"
  10. Do you know me? I had an older brother who was also an actor. We came to the U.S. from Europe as stage actors, but we were soon being offered roles in movies. Because of our heritage and accents, we tended to be typecast as priests, although we actually played a wide variety of roles. We were in several movies together and several for director John Ford. In the 1950's, I did much more television work than my brother, although he did some. I even appeared in a Mickey Mouse Club serial. In the late fifties and early sixties I was in my western period, guest starring in episodes of "Bat Masterson", "Bonanza", "Maverick", "Rawhide", and "Wagon Train", although no one would ever think of me as a western star. I was a character actor my entire career. My brother may have been better known, after all he did win an Oscar, but I worked more often. Do you know me?
  11. Carol Burnett's husband, Joe Hamilton, was the executive producer of her show which ended in 1978. They divorced in 1984.
  12. The song is "I Believe In You". It was written by Frank Loesser for "How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying". It was a hit Broadway show and then a 1967 movie with Robert Morse and Michelle Lee.

  14. #2 is Mary Treen #10 looks like Zita Johann. She was in "The Mummy" with Boris Karloff. She was once married to John Houseman, whom you remember from "The Paper Chase" movie and TV series.

  16. The connection is that the women in photos 1 and 2 were in a remake of a movie that the women in photos 3 and 4 were in some years earlier. The movies were about forty years apart. Now, does anyone know them?

  21. Yes, those are the two. They were married from 1933 to 1942, so almost all of her film and television career came after they were divorced. Louis Calhern replaced Frank Morgan as Buffalo Bill in "Annie Get Your Gun" when Morgan suffered a fatal heart attack. In "Executive Suite", Calhern played a businessman who tried to take advantage of the situation created when the chief executive of a company died from a heart attack. When filming "Tea House Of The August Moon" Calhern died of a heart attack and was replaced by Paul Ford. I have to say that when watching "Gilligan's Island", I had no idea that Natalie Schafer had ever been married to Louis Calhern. Good work, Lavender. It's your turn now.
  22. In one of his best known movies, he replaced an actor who died of a heart attack while filming. Some years later, he also died of a heart attack while filming a movie in Japan and was replaced by another actor.
  23. Well, you're half right, Princess. Betty Furness played Fred's fiance in "Swing Time". She also had a bit part in "Flying Down To Rio". The company that she did commercials for was Westinghouse. Here is one of her commercials: "You can be sure if it's Westinghouse". OK, Princess. You're up next.
  24. Sorry, Princess. Barbara Britton did not make movies in the 1930's and never played the fiance of Fred Astaire. She also was never the Director Of Consumer Affairs for New York City. The actress that I am looking for also did some acting on various TV shows in the 50's, but it is her commercials that she is probably best remembered for.
