The singing cowboy clue got me started in the right direction. In the mid to late thirties, Dick Foran was under contract to Warner Bros. and he was billed as "The Singing Cowboy". His singing style was much more like Nelson Eddy than Gene Autry or Tex Ritter. Some of his westerns were shown on TCM within the last few months on Saturday mornings. Now, do you know this one? Do you know just how highly you rate You should thank your lucky stars, and I mean You should thank all forty-eight Obviously, the song was written before Alaska and Hawaii became states. That really narrows it down, doesn't it?

I'll defer to Princess. She got her answer in first.

The later movie was "Some Like It Hot". Director Billy wilder even gave a part to Edward G. Robinson Jr. in an attempt to entice his father into appearing in the picture, but Eddie Sr. refused. Eddie Jr. played the hit man who shoots George Raft and his cronies, so maybe Eddie Sr. got some satisfaction out of that.

The song is "I'm Laughing" from the 1934 film "Stand Up And Cheer". It was sung by Dick Foran, who was billed as Nick Foran in his early pictures. The actress in blackface was Tess Gardella, who played Queenie in the original stage production of "Show Boat". The movie was a springboard to stardom for Shirley Temple, who sang "Baby, Take A Bow" with James Dunn. Here is "I'm Laughing".

Arturo, I'm out of guesses and apparently no one else has figured it out. Why not give us the answer and then post a new one?.

Very good, Lawrence. I don't even count Franklin Pangborn. He was only there a few weeks. Of course, Gene Rayburn hosted "The Match Game", Hugh Downs hosted "Concentration", and Ed McMahon hosted "Missing Links" and "Snap Judgement". Lawrence gets the thread..

All three announcers also had stints as game show hosts.
-
You are correct, Starlit. Judy actually sang the song on the radio in 1939, as well as recording it that same year. She sang it again in "Babes On Broadway" in 1941. Star, you're up next.

Arturo, I think we need some help. Could you possibly change a clue or two?

Sorry for the delay. I had to check with my old person about this next question. As you know, "The Tonight Show" has had several regular hosts over the years. Since this thread is only about pre-1980 facts, we'll only ask these questions about the first three hosts. 1. Steve Allen 1954-1957 2. Jack Paar 1957-1962 3. Johnny Carson 1962-1992 Each of these hosts had an announcer/sidekick as well as a band leader. As a matter of fact, Johnny Carson, who hosted the show for thirty years, had three regular band leaders and one regular substitute band leader. Can you name all three announcers and all of the band leaders for these hosts?

Could #4 be Nancy Carroll?

I thought I knew it after the third clue, but I looked up the lyrics and didn't see the line "Her face is a dream, like an angel I saw". Apparently, I wasn't looking at the complete lyrics, I should have gone right to the video clip. The song is "The Donkey Serenade". It was sung by Allan Jones to Jeanette MacDonald in "The Firefly" and it became his signature song. He had appeared with Jeanette in "Rose Marie" in a supporting role as an opera singer. The male star of that movie, and many others with Jeanette, was Nelson Eddy. Here is the clip. The line is about three minutes and forty seconds in.

Here's what I think. The long running TV comedy was "December Bride" and it starred veteran actress Spring Byington. The title of the spin-off was "Pete And Gladys" and it starred Harry Morgan (once known as Henry Morgan) as Peter Porter, a character from "December Bride". On the original show, Pete's wife Gladys was never seen, but on "Pete And Gladys" she was played by Cara Williams as sort of a Lucy Ricardo type. Harry Morgan and Spring Byington Harry Morgan and Cara Williams Apparently, Harry was quite the dancer.

Here's a few to get started. #5 Jeff Donnell #6 Jean Harlow and Patsy Kelly #9 Anne Shirley #10 Mona Freeman

We have them all now. Thanks to all who participated. Lavender got most of them but she doesn't post photos. Shutoo got three, Gershwin fan got two and SCSU1975 got two, so Shutoo gets to go next.

Everything is correct so far. #7 and #9 are in a war movie with Sean Connery set in North Africa. #8 is in a war movie with Michael Caine set in South Africa.

Lawrence, you have probably seen every horror movie ever made. Of course, you are correct. I didn't know about Malcolm McDowell playing the part. I only knew about Donald Pleasence and John Gavin. You're up next, Lawrence.

I was going to save this question for the Hitchcock thread, but I'll ask it now. A character in a well known Hitchcock movie has the same name as a character in a series of later horror films. The Hitchcock film is completely unrelated to the horror films. Can you name the films, the character name, and the folks who played those characters?
-
Don't forget Doris Day. Her husband, Marty Melcher, produced most of her movies from the mid-fifties on, as well as her TV series in the sixties. Also, Eve Arden's husband, Brooks West, produced "The Eve Arden Show" in the late fifties.
-
We have a winner! Thanks, Starlit. If you checked out the clip, the rubber-legged tap dancer was a fellow named Al Norman and the two singing heads were the Sisters G. Good job, Star. You get the thread.

Early thirties, in color, although somewhat primitive color. The film was a series of musical numbers that featured Paul Whiteman and his orchestra.
