  1. >"Personally, I don't think slitting up TCM (...) would work." >Best malaprop I've read in a loooong time. I liked the one a few months ago where, in a discussion of NIGHT OF THE LEPUS, someone meant to refer to the killer rabbits as "Easter Bunnies" but accidentally typed "Eater Bunnies"!
  2. >Tonight I had the misfortune of watching "the beyond" (well the first 4min) - total gore, and uncalled for human mutilation and torture. > Be glad you turned it off when you did. The gore and disgustingness continued relentlessly. And this movie found more ways to show ugly and disgusting liquids than any other I can think of.
  3. That sounds like it could be PAPER MOON (1973). Info about it is here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070510/
  4. > Don't forget to use the right arrow at the beginning of the quote. No need for any arrow at the end of the quote, just the right arrow at the beginning. Then space down a couple of lines and type your reply. Then hit the preview and make sure the quote is in the white box. If it is, go to the Rich Text box and hit the post button. Okay thanks again. Here goes...
  5. Try using the Plain Text and hit preview before posting. That should do it. > Okay thanks...testing. Edited by: musicalnovelty on Jun 24, 2011 1:07 AM ... to say thanks anyway but it's still not working for me. I'm still not figuring it out. Let's hope they get it fixed back the way it was.
  6. Trivia! Has anyone else noticed the MIRACLE ON 34th STREET connection in the movie THEM!? (And I don't mean just the appearance of one prominent actor. That's too easy, too obvious. I mean something more).
  7. Use the right facing code arrow, then a space, then you type in who said what, and then copy and paste the quote. > I've been trying all kinds of variations of that but still can't seem to get it.
  8. lz wrote... "He's really great. I first became aware of him thanks to Paul Simon's Graceland album back in the 1990s." Not from his big summer 1968 hit single "Grazing in the Grass"? That's what he's probably best known for.
  9. If it's "fixed" where's the "quote" option when replying to a post? I still can't find it.
  10. TODDFAN wrote: The Letter 1929 w/Jeanne Engels which was remade as Dark Victory is finally available as an official release by the Warner Archives!!! > I'm sure you mean THE LETTER (1929) was remade as THE LETTER (1940) not as DARK VICTORY. But anyway yes it's great to have it finally released.
  11. THINGS YOU NEVER SEE ON THE SCREEN is a 1935 Warner Bros. short. It is basically just like all their other "Bloopers/Breakdowns" reels but was produced to look more like a real short. It's available as an extra on the 2006 Warners DVD of the 1935 feature G MEN.
  12. Josephherndz wrote: It seems you might be looking for Broadway Bill, perhaps? with Warner Baxter & Myrna Loy. Or the remake, RIDING HIGH (1950) starring Bing Crosby.
  13. I stayed up for it just to see Yvonne Craig. But she didn't even show up until about halfway through the snooze-fest. And sure enough I fell asleep before it was over.
  14. JackFavell said... I had an emergency appendectomy last night, I'm totally fine, but might not post for a few days. Everything is ok. I say... Speedy recovery and come back soon as you can! And I agree with Dr. CineMaven's excellent advice!
  15. CineMaven said... Funny, I was watching "Orchestra Wives" this morning...well, not exactly watching; I I had it on while I was puttering about. I didn't really want to actively watch it..it was going to be kind of corny. It was very 1940's movie predictable. Every time I saw George Montgomery he made me stop what I was doing. Hi, Maven, ORCHESTRA WIVES certainly is a great one for listening perhaps more than watching - all that wonderful Glenn Miller music! Including one of my favorites, "People Like You and Me" that the band never recorded on records. One thing that I always notice about George Montgomery is his voice. Does anyone else think he sounds almost exactly like Clark Gable?
  16. That's an interesting still of Jean Simmons and Lyle Bettger. It's promoting the 1951 Paramount feature DEAR BRAT in which Bettger appears, but not Jean. Maybe they shot a series of promotional stills of her visiting other Paramount sets, too. Strange that she never even appeared in any Paramount films around that time but that they seem to be promoting her. Another cool still, Mongo! Thanks!
  17. Kyle, It's interesting that THE CYCLOPS was distributed in some areas by Allied Artists and in others by RKO Radio Pictures. Your poster is from RKO Radio.
  18. THE H-MAN is coming up again on TCM on Thursday night, June 30. So be sure to tune in and check it out.
  19. > {quote:title=gagman66 wrote:}{quote} > Wow, *REDEMPTION!* Really? What day is it on. Couldn't find this on the schedule. > REDEMPTION is scheduled on Sept. 19. Let's hope it's still on the schedule when the 19th rolls around!
  20. > {quote:title=Hibi wrote:}{quote} > I cant believe FINALLY it's going to be shown on tv! I've waited so many years. It's Joan Fontaine's favorite role. Cant wait! > And how nice that Joan has lived to see that her favorite role has finally been freed from the vaults and can now be seen by everyone.
  21. > {quote:title=SoCalGal16 wrote:}{quote} > Or Spartacus. Why no Spartacus? > At least that one's been on TV before. How about the original THE BLUE LAGOON (1949)? Never been on TCM, in fact I haven't seen it on TV anywhere since a local channel one late night in 1973. That's one that truly deserves rediscovery.
  22. > {quote:title=Edgecliff wrote:}{quote} > June 7 releases: > > Barbary Pirate (1949) > Key Witness (1947) > Love and Human Remains (1993) > Love Has Many Faces (1965) > Miracle on Interstate 880 (1993) > Mother, May I Sleep with Danger? (1996) > No Sad Songs for Me (1950) > Slightly French (1949) > Snake River Desperadoes (1951) > That's good that there are a few from the 1940's there. But please Sony, more 1930's! And how about some shorts compilations, such as the Columbia Charley Chase shorts?
  23. > {quote:title=cody1949 wrote:}{quote} > Another movie that has rights issues that keeps it off TCM so far is THE STRANGER'S RETURN, directed by King Vidor. The leads are Lionel Barrymore, Miriam Hopkins and Franchot Tone. > Another I wish would be shown is RETURN OF THE TERROR (1934) - Warner Bros. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0025714/combined
  24. > {quote:title=GreatMoviesFan wrote:}{quote} > I recorded this movie on Sunday night, saw it tonight, and I loved it, but there were a few things I didn't get, mainly, when Buster and Annabelle are on the train and she's sweeping and he throws the broom away, she picks up something and throws something in the fire and he picks up something else and shakes her for being stupid. What did she throw in and what did it have to do with the thing he picked up? > I think he was just exasperated with her for picking up a tiny twig when big logs were needed for the fire.
