    >

Loretta's sisters were Sally Blane, Polly Ann Young, and Georgiana Young.

  2. Juanita Quigley (still with us) and older sister Rita (passed away in August 2008).

    Arthur Lake and sister Florence.

    Chester Morris and brother Adrian.

    Joan Blondell and sister Gloria.

Jeanette MacDonald and sister Marie Blake (Blossom Rock).

James Cagney and sister Jeanne and actor / producer brother William.

Frank McHugh and brother Matt and sister Kitty.

Joan Leslie and sisters Mary and Betty Brodel.

  3. Nobody has yet mentioned the Beery family:

Brothers Wallace and Noah. And there was also another brother William, who was an actor.

    And Noah's son Noah, Jr.

And Wallace's daughter Carol Ann even did some film and radio work.

  4. How many of Kathryn Grayson's fans know that she had a sister named Frances Raeburn who also made a few movies? Frances appeared with her famous sister in the 1942 MGM feature SEVEN SWEETHEARTS and had small roles in a few other MGM pictures in the early 1940's. Then Universal gave her a leading role in their musical SWING OUT, SISTER in 1945. And she was very good in it. Beautiful and charming just like her sister. And a good singer, too. But that was it for Frances in the movies.

    Here's info on Frances:

Thanks gagman for remembering and mentioning Dorothy Janis' 100th birthday. She certainly was beautiful and memorable in "The Pagan".

That one is shown on The Fox Movie Channel a few times a year. I hope you can catch it there.

I do have all the schedules saved since sign-on day (April 14, 1994) but what a job that would be to tabulate a complete list by going over all those!

TCM must have the info documented somewhere just for their own records, though.

    >> on pure speculation, i would say a place in the sun is the most overplayed of the year. i cannot believe i forgot to mention it in my list, i see other people who have shouted it out. props to them.

    >

Yes, I'm one who keeps mentioning A PLACE IN THE SUN every time this topic comes up again. I just want to keep reminding TCM that at least once every two dozen times they show the 1951 film can't we get to see the 1931 version at least just once?!

  10. Dick Powell and Ruby Keeler.

    Charley Chase and Thelma Todd.

    Edgar Kennedy and Florence Lake.

    Roscoe Arbuckle and Buster Keaton.

    Shirley Temple and Bill Robinson.

    Donald O'Connor and Peggy Ryan.

Richard Arlen & Andy Devine (lots of fun Universals!)

Frankie Darro and Mantan Moreland. Just watched them in ON THE SPOT (Monogram - 1940) tonight while TCM was stuck in the 1970's.

Ted Healy and Nat Pendleton worked very well together in a few movies at MGM in the mid-1930's.

And some of my favorite lesser known (but not lesser funny) comedy teams:

    Wheeler & Woolsey

    Clark & McCullough

    Al Shaw and Sam Lee

Karl Dane & George K. Arthur

And Rowan & Martin. Even with all the talent on their TV show, some of my favorite parts were when the two of them would just talk and Dick would try to tell a story or whatever. Funny team, they were.

El Brendel is cool. A very talented guy who unfortunately was never given enough film (or television) roles to display his talents. He really didn't want to always be playing the dumb Swedish guy. But that's what they all wrote for him.

A good friend is the number one El Brendel fan in the universe and has an excellent site devoted to El:

    http://www.elbrendel.com/

He also covers a lot of other stars and topics in addition to El, mostly silent and pre-code eras.

Go back through his older posts and find amazingly cool & rare shots and info on favorites such as Janet Gaynor, Joan Blondell, Wheeler & Woolsey and many more.

It must have been so cool to see that on a BIG screen!

  13. I'm surprised nobody else has yet commented on what this promo is showing, or at least what the images are clearly inspired by.

On the slight chance that you could possibly be mixing up the plots of two different movies in your memory, part of the description you gave sort of fits the 1941 Columbia movie ADAM HAD FOUR SONS.

If there are only 3 or 4 runs for Fox films I guess they've used up "The Grapes of Wrath" already.

I had that problem a few years ago: about one out of three issues would never arrive and I had to keep calling for replacements.
