misswonderly said... Here's a song I associate with summer time. I don't know why, since apparently the album it's from was released in November (1972.) Maybe they didn't release the single until the spring or something. ============================ It was released on a single in early 1973, hitting the American charts in February '73 (the stations that played it, that is...many more conservative stations skipped it.)

Unfortunately, no, that movie has never yet been released on real authorized legal home video or DVD. It's one of hundreds of fun Universal B's from the 1930's and early 1940's that I'd sure love to see properly released. All we can do is settle for copies of questionable quality made from film prints.

The movie you mentioned coming up Thursday, BORN FOR TROUBLE (1942) is one I'm also looking forward to. It is a Warner Bros. movie originally released as MURDER IN THE BIG HOUSE starring Van Johnson in one of his very first roles. Warners re-released it in 1945 to cash in on Van J.'s popularity at MGM, giving it a new title: BORN FOR TROUBLE. I haven't seen it in many years, but as far as I recall the print shown was the reissue with the BORN FOR TROUBLE title. I'll be interested to see what print TCM shows on the 18th. Here's the original 1942 trailer: http://www.tcm.com/mediaroom/video/625321/Born-For-Trouble.html

MilesArcher said... The little girl representing "Look" magazine was Cheryl Archibald. She was about seven years old at the time. In 1948, she appeared on Broadway in a show called "Love Life". She had changed her name to Cheryl Archer. =========================================== Yes, that YouTube clip is the one I was going to post after the answer was finally given. And you pretty much said just what I was going to about Cheryl Archer. I have some stills from the 1948 show "Love Life" and she certainly turned into the beautiful young lady you could tell she would from seeing her as a child in COVER GIRL. I also have two nice stills of the cover girls visiting the Fibber McGee & Molly radio program to promote the movie COVER GIRL. One shows Fibber & Molly and all 15 of the girls along with Anita Colby, while the other is Fibber & Molly posing with just Cheryl Archer (who brought her white stuffed bunny along!). Interesting that on the captions on the backs of the stills Cheryl is billed as Cheryl Archer, so she must have changed her name from Archibald around that time. Her age is given as 5. Also, her actual "Look" Magazine cover was different from the one shown in the movie. It can be seen here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1943-LOOK-June-15-Cocker-Spaniel-Tunisia-Huphrey-Bogart-Alfred-Hitchcock-/121054770530?pt=Magazines&hash=item1c2f6d3562 So, can anyone find out anything more about Cheryl Archer after 1948? What else did she do? Could she still be with us? By the way, I'd love to post any or all of the stills I've mentioned here, but no matter how helpful folks have been here trying to explain how it's done, I can never get it to work.

Yes, the song is "Cover Girl" from the movie COVER GIRL. I knew that last clue would give it away...I know how good you all are and hadn't wanted to give any clues that I thought would make it too easy.

The Post an Interesting Pic thread

I think I know that one without even clicking on to your link: Got the original 1948 Kay Kyser Columbia 78 RPM record! (But hey I didn't know the song was about Miss Lake!) -
Sorry, I guess I shouldn't have used the term "mystery movie" - I just meant that the movie's title is a mystery as far as it is still unknown in this trivia question. The movie's plot, story, or no other elements at all can be considered mysterious. It's a fun musical comedy movie with very popular stars and excellent songs. Okay, I'm sure this will give it away right away, but the principal profession of the 15 guest performers is: they're all models.

From the 1951 Three Stooges short DON'T THROW THAT KNIFE: (Discussing magicians): Shemp: I got an uncle who can make things disappear. Moe: Is he a magician? Shemp: No, he's a kleptomaniac!

I'll leave it open for anyone else...

Need help finding movie title! Driving me insane!!

It's a long shot, but some of what you describe reminds me of the 1942 movie KINGS ROW. Here's a plot summary: http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title/80395/Kings-Row/full-synopsis.html -

Well, Zachary Scott is in all of them...but it's got to be something more than that... -
No, not HERE COME THE WAVES. That's a Paramount picture. Our mystery movie is not a Paramount picture, nor a Warner Bros. (as is THIS IS THE ARMY). Well, that eliminates two studios anyway...

Magician Abraham Cantu appears and does a few tricks in the 1931 Laurel & Hardy comedy POLITIQUERIAS (which was the extended Spanish-language version of their short CHICKENS COME HOME, in which Cantu did not appear). TCM shows POLITIQUERIAS occasionally.

Oh, that face, that fabulous face. Whose is it?

Sorry I didn't see it in time to identify Shirley Jean Rickert. I knew her and was able to get copies for her of some of her films she didn't have. She was a nice lady and always spoke her mind! But she was fun. Her name during her later years was Shirley Jean Measures and she had a business called Measures Up. In keeping with the "measures" theme, her business card was marked like a ruler. Regarding Cordell Hickman, I guess I shouldn't have guessed if I wasn't sure. And I wasn't. I kept thinking I'm sure this kid's name starts with a "C" but I wasn't coming up with it. Just took a guess with Philip Hurlic. The movie he was in that also featured Shemp Howard was ARABIAN NIGHTS (1942). -

Is he Philip Hurlic? (Child actor in the 1930's & 1940's including a few with Our Gang). -
Well, you're getting close, mentioning that particular movie. You're in the right period. In fact, on the day that movie was released, our mystery movie was in production. And, by the way, none of the 15 special guest performers in the song number were musicians, soldiers or construction workers. Their regular jobs were not war-related. I mentioned that one of the 15 people was a child. A few years later with a slight name change she did do some stage acting, but no other known film work.

Looks like singer Jane Froman, subject of the 1952 movie WITH A SONG IN MY HEART starring Susan Hayward. -

That's the lovely Patricia Ellis. The color image looks like a shot from a colorized copy of the 1938 Laurel & Hardy movie BLOCK-HEADS, in which she played the role of Ollie's neighbor. -
ginnyfan said... I'd like to see a short called THE SPIRIT OF 1976 (1935). The plot was that in 1976, people would no longer have to work, would have numbers instead of names and would be so bored by it that they revolt to win the right to work again. A teenaged Betty Grable was featured. ============================================== It's a pretty rare one, but I have it, if you'd like a copy...

What Do These Four Films Have In Common

Yes, exactly! Correct, well done! That's it! Ya got it! -
A clue: Something didn't happen involving these films that almost always does happen normally with films.
-
You didn't specify if it's a comedy, but if it was, it could have been either of the not-so-classic comedies THE DEVIL WITH HITLER (1942) or NAZTY NUISANCE (1943) (also sometimes referred to as THAT NAZTY NUISANCE) both starring Bobby Watson as Hitler. They are Hal Roach Productions and are occasionally shown on TCM. Watson played Hitler in numerous movies in addition to these two.

No, nothing to do with Ziegfeld girls, Ziegfeld shows, Ziegfeld himself, or any movie about him or using his name. Another clue: The title of the song is the same as the title of the movie it's in.

Okay, I'll try one: What do these four movies have in common? THE PRINCESS COMES ACROSS (1936) PARDON MY PAST (1945) DARK CITY (1950) THE RACKET (1951)
