Oh, bother! Well, I guess that settles that! (Smile)ML

Dear Stella, I had to do some searching, but I finally found what your recent loss was, and what else has been going on in your life this week. Please accept my sincere Condolences for the loss of your grandfather. And, I'll also say a Prayer for the baby of your best friend. I've missed you, and will be happy to have you back as soon as you're up to it. Take care, Sweetie. ML

Such was Stewart's endearing humor. Gotta love him! And, I miss him so.

Well, when it comes to "likeable" I've just got to say Marjorie Main. I'm crazy about her.
And, then there is also S. Z. "Cuddles" Sakall. It makes me smile just to say his name!
Both of these character actors made a lot of movies, and held many of them together, so I think of both of them as Stars regardless of their billing. Both were with MGM. Marjorie starred in the "Ma & Pa Kettle" series, and I wish that TCM would get these movies and show them.

Thousands will disagree with me, but every time I see John Garfield, I wonder what the big attraction was. Same thing with Victor Mature.

Well Feaito, if you're not going to read them, why don't you ship them to me and I'll read them and ship them back? I can't afford to buy them! ML

I may not be a particular fan of Cher's when she is singing, although millions of people love her voice, but when it comes to acting (which is what we usually like to discuss at this site), Cher has proven herself to be an exceptional actress. I love her in every movie she has made, and totally admire her "free Spirit" approach to living! Go Cher!

Wow, daddysprimadonna (great handle for you, by the way). For someone who won't "Cher-bash", you just did a magnificant job of it. Congratulations....heh, heh, heh.

Jimmy Stewart said at the Golden Globes that year that he thought he would have been good in that role (smile).

This book will of course be one of those "unauthorized biography's" with no other purpose than to put pure garbage out there because there is an audience for it, and this jerk will get rich off of those who will buy it. No way will I be one of them! ML

If I can only pick one, I'd have to say Elizabeth Taylor when she was still in her prime. Her face is undoubtedly the most beautiful seen on screen and in magazines for many years.

Hey there, Loliteblue! Thanks so much for the great recap of the interview. Good job! I'm afraid that I really can't see Angela portraying Nurse Ratched very convincingly, and do think that they cast that role perfectly with Louise Fletcher playing her.
She does indeed have a "zany" side which she presented with perfection in "Sweeney Todd" on Broadway. I can't remember if she got a Tony that year or not, for this musical....but she should have! There have been two times that she did get Tony's as far as I know, and one must have been for "Mame".
I agree...this is a woman who has shared a wonderful career in film and on the stage with us and TCM would do well to have Robert Osborne do a "Private Screenings" with her if one hasn't been done yet. ML

And, wouldn't you know it, I was "busy" watching other things and totally forgot to watch Larry King last night! Can anyone who watched please share at least some of the highlights of the interview with us? And, does anyone know if that Network will provide transcripts of Larry's Interviews?

"Kings Row"?

I have to chime in with agreement to previous comments about Louise Beavers and John Gielguld. I loved Louise Beavers in "Immitation of Life", and I also loved John Gielguld in "Arthur". John Gielguld shined in a great many movies over the years. I really miss him. ML

I agree. If you have an opportunity to see "Dr. Z." on the big silver screen, don't pass it up! As for the others, they are all such Classics that you will also not regret having seen them on the big silver screen. Many of us truly envy you! Please come back and share your feelings about them after seeing them. ML

Give the .wav file a try, I might be able to identify it for you, or maybe other's could, too. Worth a try.

Just to get back "on topic" here, there's only one actor (?) I know of whose films I refuse to watch and that's Jerry Lewis. That's as far as I dare go concerning him.

Skippy...re. your mom's misguided donation...you just keep cracking me up!

Well, whatever it was about, shame on both of them for letting it get so publicly out of hand and hurtful.

Thanks for the "alert" Cat...I will be watching for sure! There's a lot of movie history wrapped up in that gal, and her personal story is one of incredible courage. A personal favorite of mine that she was in is "Portrait of Dorian Gray", in which we first learned that she also had a lovely singing voice.

Happy Birthday to Elaine Stritch! I will always remember you in Stephen Sondheim's "The Follies in Concert" (1986) (TV), one of my very favorite video's and CD's.

Path, here's a tip if you'd like to try it. If I don't really know if I'm going to want a tape of a movie, I go ahead and tape it anyway on SP, and then if I really like it I keep it and if I don't want it I tape over it the next time a "questionable" movie comes along.
I haven't seen any of the movies you've asked about so I'll be putting this trick to use tomorrow (smile).

Skippy, thanks for the tip that TVLand is showing Carol Burnette's shows again...I'll start paying attention to that channel and try to catch some of them. Talk about some "Classic" segments that came out of that show! ML

Hey there Spencer! Thanks for your kind words...with your help I'm working hard and making progress (smile).
I find it interesting to learn that during the years between 1932 and 1944 there were 10 nominations to select a winner from at the Academy Awards. I'm scratching my head to think of what other five films would have made that kind of list today. Thanks for sharing your vast knowledge with us!
