  1. Hi Stella! I loved "The Wind"....in fact, I have loved the past seven weeks, non-stop, of Silent Sunday's movies. The one this coming Sunday with Mary Pickford will make eight weeks in a row. Many of these silents are ones I've never seen, and sure won't ever see anywhere else other than on TCM.

As for the ending, I think that it's too bad that they didn't use the original ending. I can understand why they didn't, but I also think that a great deal of creative artistry was lost by putting a "happy ending" on this particular movie. After all, it depicts a time, and a setting, where there were seldom "happy endings"...so why deviate from that harsh and stark reality with a movie like "The Wind"?

  2. I was only able to catch the last few minutes of this film. It's the ones like this one that sure make me wish that we could get some kind of "warning" when they are going to be on so that we can be ready and get them taped! I still think that TCM would do very well to devote an entire day (or more) to the best one-reelers, this film included. ML

  3. It's difficult for me to take seriously that "Silent Sunday's have become a joke". Here's why:

    Nov. 23: "Tillie's Punctured Romance" (1914)

Nov. 30: Discovering the It Girl (documentary about Clara

Bow, followed by) "Down to the Sea in Ships"

    (1923).

Dec. 7: "Der Golem (Horror, 1915)

    Dec. 14: "The Kid (1921)

Dec. 21: "Christmas Past" (a compilation of short silents

    with a Christmas theme).

Dec.28: "The Wind" (1928) Lillian Gish

Jan. 4: "The Love Light (War, 1921) Mary Pickford.

These Silents have all been shown on Silent Sunday night, without interruption. If one makes a statement like you've made, it's kind of important to back it up with facts that will support it, don't you think?

Additionally, I don't have to sit down and start adding up all the "silver screen" movies that TCM shows us every single day to know that at least 90% of the movies we see are both Classics, and in Black and White. Get a grip, guys!

  4. Hi Feaito! I recently saw a movie, "The Cat's Meow" (2001) that is supposedly "a semi-true story of the Hollywood murder that occurred at a star-studded gathering aboard William Randolph Hearst's yacht in 1924." (IMDb) I'm curious to know if you have seen anything in any of your books about this murder that might be more clear about what was "semi-true" and what was totally true. Thanks, ML

  5. Stella, what you said to CJ Rogan just cracked me up! And, of course, the important thing is that Mr. Rogan needs to stop reading and posting in this thread if he objects to what he is reading (and not all of it is "gossip" about Tyrone Power, by the way...it's known that he was fond of young boys like Chaplin was fond of young girls).

Mr. Rogan, you've been told that we are not attempting to "change" you, and by the same token you may not attempt to change the title of this thread, or anyone's viewpoints in this thread that don't match your own.

The Catholic church that I attend would be appalled at your personal, very un-Christian prejudices and biases toward people, not just what the Catholic church says are sinful behaviors, but people. Not only have you said some horrible things about people you do not even know well enough to talk about, you have also said some very horrible things to some of us here. Your sick messages to Venerados, and that one in which you called me a "gay rag" certainly come quickly to mind.

As far as I'm concerned it's people like you who give the Catholic Church a bad name, and I do not want anyone who has been reading your trash to think that all Catholics are like you, or that you are a glowing example of what the Catholic church teaches....nothing could be further from the truth!

This thread is going to stay here, Mr. Rogan, whether you like it or not. Do yourself, and all the rest of us a huge favor and simply stop reading and posting in this thread! Keep your prejudices and biases to yourself, like most people in society do, or find another site that will not find you as offensive as we do.

  6. I noticed that on Silent Sunday's tonight "The Wind" with Lillian Gish is on. This will be the first time that I've seen this silent, so I'm feeling a bit excited, and as always, very grateful to TCM for giving me the chance.

    ML

  7. You know, CJ, I'm living for the day when I'll open one of your posts and see that there's something you like about TCM. ****, ****, ****...that's all you do! If you can't find anything good to say about TCM, why do you watch it...and why do you post at this site?

  8. CJRogan. Now listen. No one here is trying to change your beliefs. By the same token, any of us who have entered into this discussion with you in this thread, or other threads where you felt it necessary to preach your doctrines to us, will not accept you trying to change ours. These Forums are not here for those purposes, no matter how thinly you attempt to disguise them in "discussions" (if they can be called that) about "movies". What makes you think that we care if you're a devout Catholic? Why is it so damned imporant for you to keep telling us this? What are you trying to defend...your church, or all the outrageous things you say to us?

I refused to buy into your "now they are persecuting me and trying to change me" nonsense, because you have created this entire discussion about your prejudices and where they come from. What really **** me off at this point, Rogan, is that you are telling us that the Bible says this, and the Bible says that, as if the statements like "homosexuals are abnormal" comes right out of the same Bible that I read, and I've never read that! You have no right to say something like that, and then blame it on the Bible! Those were your words, and yours alone.

By now, you should be able to see that many of us here are finding your posts and a lot of what you continually say to us to be extremely offensive. We've put up with you for a long time, but I think that some of us have reached the limit. It's really time for you to either put a cork in it, or move along, Rogan.

  9. Thank you, Stella! The definition of "homophobic" that you posted is exactly correct, and is also the definition that everyone except the most ignorant in our society accept. Please read it carefully, CJ...you might actually learn something! And, even if you don't, stop posting your homophobic garbage here. We're not interested in reading it!
