Fred, as I watched this movie, I was wondering if this was the only instance of Ms. Paget playing a "bad girl". The only thing that came to mind was "River's Edge", where she played the wife of Anthony Quinn, but was attracted to Ray Milland, the heavy.

Vertigo, don't give up on "Princess of the Nile." These old movies have a way of showing up eventually. So many times I've thought that I'd never be able to see a certain movie again, and it will appear on some movie channel. As I recall, this movie has never been shown on TCM. Another of her movies that I'd love to see again is "Bird of Paradise."

Yes, Lane, that's a great line! Hollywood can be so fickle. It's a shame that some go on to great success, while others fade away much too soon. And many times it has nothing to do with talent. Mari Blanchard should have enjoyed much more success than she did. Not fair at all. By the way, a few days ago I mentioned Julie Adams in the list of heavies. Actually I only remember a couple of roles when she played someone other than the nice girl. I seem to remember her in "Mississippi Gambler" as being sort of a negative character. And also in "One Desire". It was Anne Baxter who was the more appealing character.

Vertigo, I remember seeing "Princess of the Nile". This is a movie she made with Jeffrey Hunter. 20th Century Fox loved using Ms. Paget in exotic roles and I remember it being entertaining for this type of movie. Of course, she looked beautifull in it and the two of them made an attractive couple. I don't recall which channel has shown this, but it may have been TCM. Anyway, thanks for reminding me of this.

  5. I remember Mari Blanchard well. The Encore Westerns channel recently showed "Rails into Laramie", a movie she did with John Payne. The last thing I saw her in was a small part in "McClintock."

This discussion seems to have come full circle, since we were talking about Dale Robertson a while back. Mara Corday starred in a Western with Dale called "Day of Fury." It's really quite interesting. In this one, Dale plays the bad guy who tries to take over a town. He's so charming that he influences a lot of the townspeople Jack Mahoney is the good guy. Also, Ms. Corday developed quite a friendship with Clint Eastwood during their Universal days, and when he became a big star,he used her many times in small roles in his movies.

  7. Well, Lane, you never stop amazing me! I didn't know that the Claire Trevor character in "Woman of the Town" was a real person. It's interesting that you said that she was a singer, because Ms. Trevor actually sings in the movie. It's a scene taking place in church, and she sings "The Holy City." It certainly sounds like she did her own singing in it. And to add to my amazement, there aren't a lot of people who remember Mara Corday. I guess the reason I remember her so well is that she appeared in a number of Westerns that I like. She even made it to starring roles, but not much happened with that. She went on to star in some sci-fi movies. But I dont think she had many regrets. After all, she ended up marrying the handsome Richard Long.

  8. Speaking of the wonderful ClaireTrevor, has anyone seen "Woman of the Town"? I have 't seen it in a long time, but I remember loving this movie. I guess this is another where she was sort of good, sort of bad. Also, I'm glad that you remembered "Man Without a Star." I love that movie. And what a great cast! Although she never made it really big, Mara Corday had a small part in this. In fact, she made a number of Westerns for Universal.
