Someone commented that Barbara Hale appeared to be rather frumpy in her role. I always felt that this reflected a wife who, along with her husband, was just barely getting by financially. I seem to recall that the story made quite a point of letting the audience know that they were quite poor. Terrence.

LadyE, it's interesting that you should say that about February on TCM. I always do the least amount of recording during this month, mainly because I've seen most of these Oscar films many times. I miss the gems that I've never heard of, or little-known movies that I want to see again. Terrence.

Thank you, TopBilled, for your insight into Ruth Roman in this movie. I've loved the movie for years, but now I'm eager to see it again to see all these nuances from this wonderful actress. This really is an edge-of-your-seat thriller for anyone who has never seen it. And to think that the movie was in the early part of her career. Does anyone know if she had stage training before coming to Hollywood? I'd be curious to know. Terrence.
