I always find Susan Hayward a little bit on the edgy side in this movie. I think part of the reason is that during the filming she was in the process of getting a divorce from Jess Barker. Perhaps if she had made this movie during a calmer time in her life, her performance would have been much different.,

Well, Yogiboo, these are two of my favorite actors from the 1950's. I think it's true that Chandler did not appear in a lot of "A" movies. Perhaps part of the reason is that his contract was with Universal-International, at the time not known for many big-budget movies. But he did make some wonderful adventures, often teamed with beautiful actresses like Rhonda Fleming, Maureen O'Hara, and Julie Adams. Once he got away from that contract, he seems to have been in more important movies. And Hunter was often seen in light-weight movies, playing the handsome boy-next-door type. I remember he did a movie with Anne Francis at Warner Bros. where he played a man pretending to be insane. He was quite good in that one. And, of course, his triumph was "King of Kings." And you're right, both men died way too young. I miss them.

This is incredible timing, because a few days ago I watched "Strangers on a Train". My copy was recorded a couple of years ago, and Alec Baldwin, the host of the Essentials, commented how good Ruth Roman was in this movie. He also cited that she had an icy projection, which, in his opinion, added to the performance. We all know that Hitchcock preferred blondes as his leading ladies, and I've heard that Warner Bros. insisted that he use Roman for this movie, since she was a contractee at the studio. I've always loved Ruth Roman, regardless of the movie. Was she a help or a hindrance in ths movie? I don't know, but I hope there are others who will respond to this.

Welcome, Six. I hope you enjoy this site as much as I do. I also am a huge fan of the movies, and this offers me an opportunity to discuss anything movie-related with others who feel the same. I look forward to hearing from you.
