Cute, chubby-jowled Szöke Szakáll (1883 - 1955) was a Hungarian actor who

 

appeared in several German films of the late 1920's and early 1930's. He had to

 

go in exile because of the rise of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi movement. Producer

 

Joe Pasternak invited him in 1940 to come to Hollywood, where he appeared as

 

S.Z. Sakall in Casablanca (1942, Michael Curtiz) and many other memorable films.
