> Ahh. Hence the small triangular windows in the front seats that opened out. I get it.
No. That was the ash tray

> {quote:title=Swithin wrote:}{quote}Very amusing thread! But along those lines, please let me know: Where does the expression "...as all get out..." come from? I've heard it, but I've never used it. Is it meant to replace something profane?

Crack open a bedroom window - my two cents: I believe a lot ofpeople need fresh air for sleeping and , well, always. Some Just needthe air they're in to be circulating. Throw me into the latter category.Even today, driving around with all the windows rolled up as a coldfront was moving through, I had the A/C blowing to remove stagnantair. In older vehicles an open window, even in freezing temps, wasrequired to remove exhaust and fuel vapors. The same goes for olderhomes, as Fred mentioned.

He's probably busy looking for it over in Rick's Cafe' Americain or somewhere.
He was bummin' a butt off a lazy parrot last I saw.
This one here may be too difficult without a bunch of clues. Here's another:
She's only got three film titles to her credit. (oops)

Now now, slayton and twinkeee. She's not Joan. ?:|
Try looking across the pond. She's got a nickname that
ties her to a very famous Hollywood actress.

Not Marlene. Right store, wrong aisle

-
Not the actress. Not the movie. #1's wealthy girl is from a well to do
eastern family. She's been sent to a ranch.
In ascending order
#1. 30's
#2. 30's
#3. 40's
#4. 40's

Who's this?

Thank you, lavenderblue. That's very generous of you.

#1. Wealthy city girl marries a ranch hand.
#2. Hotel guests are counting on the outcome of a horse race to change their lives.
#3. She is sure he will pop the question - he doesn't.
#4. A married actress is courted by an aviator.
Common thread is actress. She has the lead actress role in each film.
-
I believe it reads: To my good friend John Thompson (Esq..?)
and ...................From Henry Cole

Take 2
Chiefly British. A method or maneuver used to escape a difficult
or embarrassing situation; cop out: The scoundrel has used that
get-out once too often.
With the 'all' generally attributed to Mark Twain.
