  1. Thank you, Miles.

This one is a little more recent..

This film earned one of the two family members - the daughter - an Oscar... a significant Oscar...

Name the two family members - film title - significance of Oscar
  2. I wonder how someone like Slavko Vorkapich felt about his Hollywood career and begin pigeon-holed as the guy to make up those transitional montages?

I don't think he had much of a career in film, if any before he left his native Russia.  Still, there was and is much more competition for the top jobs in Hollywood.

I would have liked to have had that job. An early "Mr. Fix-it"

    :)

  3. I've seen several movies where "montages" had it's own credit. Wasn't the Russian name mentioned earlier, either. Started me wondering just how you specialize in montages/flashbacks? Or was it simply editing the director or principle editor didn't want to bother with?

That's an interesting question. I'm guessing in the films which had these scenes added in post, there may well have been an editor and crew which had no connection to the original production.

  4. ... Robinson Crusoe on Mars.  I haven't seen this in about 40 years or so, but it still holds up well. Just three actors:  Adam West (who departs quickly), Paul Mantee, and Vic Lundin.  Also, one monkey. Mantee, as the spaceshipwrecked survivor, is in virtually every scene and carries the film, with good support from Lundin as an alien "Friday." The special effects are decent, and kept to a minimum. The photography is great; much of this was filmed in Death Valley. If you can stick with its 1 hr 50 minute running time, it's a good survival story.

One of my favorite sci-fi movies. I saw this when it was released in theaters - great stuff. Did you recognize the Martian's spacecraft?

  5. One thing about Marlo Thomas's tribute to Loretta Young that stood out to me was that Marlo referred to her TV series as THAT GIRL (with the stress on the word "girl").

I always refer to the series as THAT GIRL (stressing the word "that").

What word do you guys stress?

I have always gone with THAT Girl. In the series intro, both are emphasized.. though I feel GIRL may have been so in order to facilitate the melody of the show's theme song. So I'm sticking with THAT Girl.

  6. :)

Alright! You got "The Bigamist"..   -  "... Babe" is incorrect.

The purple letters denote the "Who?" and "Where" were guessed as a whole - not one letter at a time. This means these letters may still be available elsewhere in the puzzle - or not.

  7. I got the "Where" - By the Light of the Silvery Moon - and, except for an extra blank, I would guess that the "Who" is The Pianist.  Is it possible that there's an extra blank in there by mistake?

The "Who?" is not The Pianist. However, the "Where?" is correct.

  8. Photo Bucket is being difficult. It keeps confusing this photo with one of the same name I had previously deleted - and then doesn't link it to this board..     - -   I changed the name of the photo and now it works, but I ain't goin' back..

I re-uploaded one from old reliable: TinyPic - see below

All this drama.. I need some chocolate ice cream - 3 scoops double chocolate in a waffle cone - STAT!

    :P

  9. I was laid up with a broken ankle when Island in the Sky and The High and the Mighty were re-released in 2005. The cable in my room only had 3 channels, with one being movies, and I was forced to watch these two repeatedly for 3 months.

Although it is different than any other Wayne film, Island.. didn't appeal to me. The High and the Mighty however.. I liked this one - probably because it's similar to Airplane! (I hadn't seen Zero Hour! 1957 yet).
