As the "assistant" walks out of the room, the man locks the door behind him believing that will shut him out. The "assistant" immediately returns through the locked door as if it weren't locked.

It is not Blackmail. The man is reluctant to accept this stranger as his assistant, even though he knows where he's from. In a state of disbelief, he tries to ignore the stranger - and his abilities.
