I'm feeling a bit numb right now. I'll never forget being a little girl, seeing this man on television and being fascinated that he named his guitar like I named my little plush friends. Then I saw him on "The Cosby Show", and I was hooked. He used his guitar like most people wished they could use their voices, and his singing had a level of depth that always rang true. He WAS the blues for so many of us, and I know he's going to be missed.
He also played piano, but we never saw any of that.

Somewhere in this great land of ours, there is an individual who is seeing this film for the first time. This individual has no doubt just returned from spending the last 40 years on Mars.
I believe this person was actually on a forbidden planet

... I think there was also a part where a guy was in the middle of the water and one of the salior or captain try to bring him on board but the guy was the enemy and he stab the salior or captain. I know this might confuse you but please I really want to know what movie this was.
This teeny piece is a scene right out of Destination Tokyo (1943)
The rest doesn't seem to fit this film.

What about that British film, DEAD OF NIGHT, about the group of ghost stories, and the creepy guy who says, "There's room for one more....." and he turns and points to a horse drawn hearse?
"I think you're onto something.."

Yes, but I'm not so sure that Bogie56 meant Janet's cast!
I believe they were part of the cast..

Speaking of coffins and bodies.. we were speaking of coffins and bodies, weren't we..? Yes. Well..
If you like Wild Strawberries, you're gonna love this one:
The Phantom Carriage (1921) - Click Here
Which, incidentally, will be airing right here on TCM Sunday, July 26 @ 12:15 AM (which is actually Monday morning) - unless they delete it.. and the way things have been going with the schedules around here lately.. this may well happen.

When I purchased my BEWITCHED DVD sets, I opted for Season 1 and 2 in the original black-and-white rather than the colorized versions that were also available.
Those are my favorite episodes. I believe Elizabeth Montgomery is beautiful in these. Her screen image was changed when they went to color, and it was not much to my liking. She had a softer, more natural appearance in the b&w episodes.

Yes, this is a weird movie.
I don't think it proposes ANY kind of specific and understandable "political" point of view. I think it just focuses in on a whole group of crackpots.
The guy who designs the weird ugly buildings.
The publisher who puts himself out of business.
The girl who loves the designer, yet to prove some kind of political point, the marries the old guy whom she does not love. That doesn't even make any sense.
She smashes her own hearth stone instead of just asking the guy for a date. Is there any weird hidden symbolism in her breaking her own hearth stone??
Then at the end, the guy blows up some other company's building, and the jury lets him get away with it.
THE UPSIDE DOWN BUILDING IN THE MOVIE:

I can't recall much of anything from the novel, but I've seen many posters comment the movie doesn't follow it well. The film probably wasn't meant to convey any political perspective.. just a film.
The designer is true to himself, as is the publisher. They hold themselves accountable to themselves and have a great sense of personal honor. These types of people will do the right thing.. especially when no one is looking. Though I'm unaware of them, there are (probably) only a few such people in today's world.
The breaking of the hearthstone was just a means to an end. Impulsive, irrational behavior. Novels and films would be bland without such things.

As I was eating my lunch this afternoon, I was listening to the mid-day show on my local NPR station. I was surprised by an interview they dug up of Ayn Rand on Johnny Carson's The Tonight Show from 1967.
I was interested mainly because I enjoy the film, The Fountainhead (1949). I have read it's source novel, but have not read other works by Ms. Rand.
I neither agree nor disagree with Ms. Rand's position(s) and beliefs.. I do like the move, as stated above.

I heard Jamie say that as well. In the film it's fairly clear Susan had been drugged, and molested.. in some manner. The TCM summary says she was discovered naked in the room with all of her clothes strewn about as a result of a wild drug party. I guess we're supposed to infer she was raped.
I'm instantly reminded of a more recent film in which
Madeleine Stowe suffered similar violations: Revenge (1990)
.. the only Anthony Quinn performance I like
