  2. I heard on CNN news several days ago that news people can no longer use the term Paddy Wagon because it is a derogatory racist term.

    I swear this is true.

Seems that the term "Paddy" is a reference to a common first name of Irish men in New York in the 19th Century.

The current approved substitute for the old term is now Transport Van. However, I suspect this might possibly be a racist insult against all men named Van, such as Van Johnson.

I believe we might have a case for derogatory terms against the transgender community. And with "port" and "Van" thrown in, who knows where this will lead.

We'll probably never be able to watch Silence of the Lambs on anything but a DVD player. Again.. EVER!

  3. WHERE'S POPPA? (1970) also had at least one "F"-bomb that I recall.  When Barnard Hughes is on the stand in Rob Reiner's trial.

Also:  Kid_Dabb, I have so far refrained from looking at the Spoiler Widget!

You're gonna wake up around 2:30 AM tomorrow.. driven by the urge.

    :P

  4. Reading through several posts below I wanted to add I like David Cronenberg's early "venereal horror" films.   I admit I've not seen any Cronenberg films except his earlier features (SHIVERS/THEY CAME FROM WITHIN • RABID • THE BROOD • SCANNERS • VIDEODROME); I reckon one day I'll watch "The Dead Zone" . . .

        ...

The Dead Zone was pretty good - I thought.

The title pretty much covers the situation, but there is also a nice murder subplot which has some good material to support it - not related to the climactic ending.

Human curiosity being what it is, I often wonder about the efficacy of these Spoiler Alert widgets. I mean really.. who is NOT going to look.

  5. y = k/x, where y = amount of offense, x = thickness of skin, and k is a positive constant (to be determined). Thus, as thickness increases, offense approaches zero, and as thickness decreases (approaches thinness), offense approaches infinity. Or a reasonable facsimile thereof.

Isn't one o' those variables supposed to have a spin?   ..  or is that just when two or more posters collide?

  6. I think a lot times we'd be surprised at what the true color actually was. Certain colors photographed better in black & white and were chosen more for how the camera saw it and not how the audience would picture it in their minds.

Sometimes, if the studio needed to have color photos made for publicity purposes, two sets of costumes would be made, one for black and white and the other for color.

I'm glad you brought that up. It would be interesting to see those true colors which were used specifically for the camera.

    I'll bet some were awful.

  7. I always pictured the dress being red striped too.  Not a bright, vibrant red, but a more muted tone.

I didn't realize Loy was a redhead! I pictured her with light brown hair.

The dress is definitely wild, but completely in line with the wild fashions of the 1930s, but what I love about the dress is how it moves when she walks around the party tending to her guests.  I bet it was a very comfortable dress to wear.  Light with flowy fabric.

Ya know the hard candies that have that red ribbon color running through them.. mostly found around the holidays.. that's the color red I imagined. With the rest being a sort of pearlescent white - like the candy.

    Here.. this stuff.

Now that you know Myrna's a red head, there's no going back.. you can't unimagine.

    :P
