  1. This is the only film the two co-stars made together but their chemistry is powerful. The male lead was already a star and about to become an even bigger star. The female lead was a beautiful, aristocratic and accomplished actress who would become very popular but eventually typecast. Set in the 1930?s, it?s the story of a discerning woman who manages to marry a wealthy scion. Though theirs starts as something of a convenient marriage, love and respect develop between the two.

  12. Exactly. Merle's beautiful face had been marred in an accident and also, apparently, by cosmetic poisoning and an allergic reaction - and her husband (though only for a few years) created "The Obie Light" to erase the imperfections. It worked... The thread is yours again...

  17. Didn't know whether that question would be easy or difficult...here's more info... The cinematographer worked at Paramount early in his career - his first cinematography assignment (uncredited) was on one of the early Dietrich/Von Sternberg films. He worked with that duo more than once. He also worked with Henry Hathaway, Budd Boetticher and Sam Peckinpah several times each. The actress was a somewhat exotic beauty. She once said that she knew she lacked singing and dancing and other artistic talents and realized that her photogenic face would be the source of her opportunities.
