Thanks. This compact light fitting is designed to mount just above a film/stills camera lens for two reasons: to create a characteristic glint in the eye of the subject of the photograph/film, and to flatten out any lines/wrinkles in the face of the subject. This light is normally heavily diffused. The name of this light is the the nickname of a famous actress. It was first used by her cinematographer husband to make lines and shadows that were caused by scarring disappear from her face. What is the light called and who were the actress and cinematographer.?

(Obviously) I love Barbara Stanwyck - and the same re: Claire Trevor...Rita Hayworth in *Gilda* has too much heart for a true femme fatale...I've always been intrigued by Jane Greer in *Out of the Past* - those big, luminous eyes, that gorgeous face, very low-key in her machinations. She gets my vote.

It looks like Moira Shearer and Robert Helpmann - but it just doesn't look like *The Red Shoes* to me - I think Kid Dabb may have it with *Tales of Hoffmann* (1951) - also from Powell/Pressburger...

George C. Scott was in *The Bible: In the Beginning*, directed by John Huston, co-starring *Ava Gardner*

I believe you're referring to Fred Thomson, silent film cowboy and Mary Pickford co-star, who died at age 38 after stepping on a nail and contracting tetanus - which was misdiagnosed at first. His wife was Academy Award winning writer Frances Marion.
