  1. I'd like to open the thread for someone else to follow cmvgor's last post...
  2. Thank you, mr6666...I neglected to mention *Fanny*, another of Horst Buchholz's early 60-s films that created a buzz about him at the time. I was born in the northeast but grew up further west. My father was a minister and mother had been a singer. No wonder I gravitated toward the stage! In fact, my first performance was in father?s church. Clearly having inherited traits from both of my parents, I sang in the chorus of an opera company for a time and developed a lifelong interest in religion. Stage work was sporadic and I found my way to radio where I worked quite a lot. My earliest attempt to get into the movies was unsuccessful; I wasn?t the right type I was told, so I continued in radio. Interestingly, when I finally started making movies, I was honored with an Oscar nomination for my role in the second film I made.
  3. Thanks, cmvgor. Believe it or not, I just saw this movie for the first time about a month ago. A friend gave it to me to watch after telling me about it. No research necessary on that one! I'll be back...
  4. Not *Intrepid* this time... Though he?s reluctant to leave the home office and his upscale life for long, he has no intention of refusing; this assignment came from the top.
  5. I like *Tippi* better in *The Birds* - I mostly like *Marnie* for Sean Connery... Lavendar, don't you find Hitchcock's secondary characters fascinating? I agree that the mother Collinge portrayed in *Shadow* was inept as far as being much help to her daughter in danger. Completely oblivious! But I'm sure that's what The Master was after. And Marion Lorne is fairly (and perfectly) grotesque as Bruno's crazy mother in *Strangers*. I love the character actors Hitchcock used - a long, long list I won't include in this single post - but maybe... Hume Cronyn or Henry Travers in *Shadow of a Doubt*
  6. Would you be Horst Buchholz, who was a sensation in the early 60's in *One, Two, Three* and *The Magnificent Seven* ??
  7. A successful and ambitious businessman is given an important overseas assignment.
  8. *Stage Fright* (we are in 100% agreement on *Notorious* - and *To Catch a Thief* ) how about - Marion Lorne (Strangers on a Train) or Patricia Collinge (Shadow of a Doubt) Message was edited by: theladyeve
  9. Your second clue included: stars one of the handsomest international actors in film history and my first thought was Alain Delon... Will be back w/movie.
  10. *Notorious* without a second thought *Dial M for Murder* or *To Catch a Thief*
  11. *Lifeboat* *Foreign Correspondent* or *Saboteur*
  12. *The Man Who Knew Too Much* (1956) *Rear Window* or *North By Northwest*
  13. Bonita Granville Kevin Kline film, *___-Lovely* top star known as Duke Mr. Deeds was a hayseed or rube, or to make a near-rhyme ?a ____ from the sticks? + James Stewart played one who knew too much
  14. *Psycho* ! *Strangers on a Train* or *Shadow of a Doubt*
  15. Betty Furness Mr. Kettle Ms. Van Devere ??it?s ___ plane, it?s Superman!? Blondie hit featured in *American Gigolo*, ?____ Me? playwright who wrote ?The Dark at the Top of the Stairs?
  16. You are so right, *Papa's Delicate Condition* (1963) starring Jackie Gleason, Glynis Johns, Charles Ruggles, based on silent-era star Corrine Griffith's memoir about her beloved dad whose "delicate condition" occurred whenever he had too much to drink. The song "Call Me Irresponsible" was introduced in the movie and won an Oscar for Best Original Song. Good and fast work again, cmvgor, it's all yours...
  17. I thought it might be from *Mr. & Mrs. Smith* (1941) but that's as close as I could get...what is it from?
  18. No, sellyoulloyd, that's not my movie this time (this is a newer film)...here are clues to-date plus a new one... 1. A boisterous man?s unpredictable behavior is a constant source of aggravation for his wife. 2. His latest grand gesture has cost him their savings. 3. The wife has had enough. She packs up the children and they all go to stay with her father.
