Not *Intrepid* this time...
Though he?s reluctant to leave the home office and his upscale life for long, he has no intention of refusing; this assignment came from the top.

I like *Tippi* better in *The Birds* - I mostly like *Marnie* for Sean Connery...
Lavendar, don't you find Hitchcock's secondary characters fascinating? I agree that the mother Collinge portrayed in *Shadow* was inept as far as being much help to her daughter in danger. Completely oblivious! But I'm sure that's what The Master was after. And Marion Lorne is fairly (and perfectly) grotesque as Bruno's crazy mother in *Strangers*. I love the character actors Hitchcock used - a long, long list I won't include in this single post - but maybe...
Hume Cronyn or Henry Travers in *Shadow of a Doubt*
-
Would you be Horst Buchholz, who was a sensation in the early 60's in *One, Two, Three* and *The Magnificent Seven* ??
-
*Panic in the Year Zero* ?

A successful and ambitious businessman is given an important overseas assignment.
-
*Stage Fright* (we are in 100% agreement on *Notorious* - and *To Catch a Thief* )
how about -
Marion Lorne (Strangers on a Train) or Patricia Collinge (Shadow of a Doubt)

You are so right, *Papa's Delicate Condition* (1963) starring Jackie Gleason, Glynis Johns, Charles Ruggles, based on silent-era star Corrine Griffith's memoir about her beloved dad whose "delicate condition" occurred whenever he had too much to drink. The song "Call Me Irresponsible" was introduced in the movie and won an Oscar for Best Original Song.

Thanks, cmvgor. Believe it or not, I just saw this movie for the first time about a month ago. A friend gave it to me to watch after telling me about it. No research necessary on that one!
I'll be back...
