  1. (In looking at this a day later, I offer apologies for pontificating.)

I'm so happy to find this thread dedicated to the films of the inimitable Bette Davis, my very favorite actress of the golden age, possibly of any age. My particular favorites of her films are:

    *Now, Voyager*

    *The Letter*

    *Dangerous*

    *Mr. Skeffington*

    *All About Eve*

    and

    *Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?*

She played a tremendous range of characters from belle to to queen to murderess to madwoman - I can't think of another actress of her time who had such range - such ability - and such sheer courage in her performances. Unlike many of the celebrated actresses of her day, BD really was an accomplished actress - not simply a personality who tended to play the same part time and again.

She was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress ten times. Unbelievably she won only twice. She deserved at least five! (I 'll resist the temptation to go on a tangent about injustice.)

The first woman president of AMPAS and the only star ever to have a #1 hit record named for him/her ("Bette Davis Eyes," the best-selling record of 1981, also winning Grammy Awards for Song and Record of the Year), Bette Davis was one of a kind, a brilliant original.
