Maria Casares was in *Les Enfants du Paradis* or *Children of Paradise* also starring the mysterious *Arletty*
-
My first thought was *Laura* - Laura, who's obviously got some money (though she works) returns from a weekend in the mountains or woods or at a lake to find out she's dead!?! - Is it *Laura* ?

Jean Marais was the most magnificent beast ever in *La Belle et la Bete* (Beauty and the Beast) directed by *Jean Cocteau*
-
I've always wanted to be Marlene Dietrich for a day (she has some pretty spectacular costumes herself). It would be one of the von Sternberg collaborations - and I'm thinking it would have to be *Blonde Venus* strictly because of Cary Grant. That frizzy wig and the gorilla suit would have to go - and I would stick with Cary in the end.
On the other hand, to be Audrey Hepburn in *Breakfast at Tiffany's* would be delicious...
-
Gerard Depardieu appeared in *Les temps qui changent* (Changing Times) with *Catherine Deneuve*
-
Cammareri, Johnny - Danny Aiello in *Moonstruck*
-
Visualfeast, you are *right* - it is *Chinatown*, best neo-noir ever, in my humble opinion. The connection for MilesArcher,of course, was that John Huston directed *The Maltese Falcon* and plays the villain in *Chinatown*. Congratulations...
VF, the thread is YOURS!
-
MilesArcher, are you there?
I probably was too vague in my last post:
*about a private eye who manages to unravel a scandal but in doing so sets in motion events that lead to more than one death. Along the way he falls in love with a murder victim's wife*
In addition, the PI in this story often misreads what's actually going on. Tho he seems to consider himself pretty sharp, he doesn't really understand the complexity of the situation he's gotten into: he's in over his head and unwittingly complicates matters. In the end, this brings about the demise of the woman he fell for.
Also, I'm guessing from your user name that you're a fan of *The Maltese Falcon*. There's a connection btw that movie and this one...

Matty to Ned in *Body Heat* (1981):
"You're not too smart, are you? I like that in a man."
-
I'm replying to myself (?) because I just remembered *Betty Hutton* - she always makes me smile - I'm thinking of *Annie, Get Your Gun* and *The Miracle of Morgan's Creek*.

This thread is taking some great turns - going from what film we'd like to permanently walk into, to what house or location in what film, and now - with what leading man (or lady) in what movie we'd like to be...and on that note...in addition to Mr. McQeen (whom I've inserted into *Breakfast at Tiffany's* but would also like to join in *The Thomas Crown Affair* ) and just about anything with Cary Grant:
*Gary Cooper* in *Morocco* (with the added plus of getting to be Marlene Dietrich)
*Ronald Colman* in *Lost Horizon* (and others)
*Tyrone Power* in any movie up thru *A Yank in the RAF*
*La Bete* in *La Belle et la Bete* (Jean Marais in costume)
*Joel McCrea* in *The Palm Beach Story* and *Foreign Correspondent*
*Anton Walbrook* in *The Red Shoes*
*Ralph Meeker* in *Kiss Me Deadly*
*Richard Burton* in *The Night of the Iguana*
*Paul Newman* in *Butch Cassidy* (but, as with Mr. Grant, in just about anything)
*Billy Dee Williams* in *Lady Sings the Blues*
that's the short list - next...
-
First, there's *Shangri-La* the Himalayan utopia from *Lost Horizon*. I wanted to go straight there the first time I ever saw the movie. Then there's *Bali Ha'i*, the fictional tropical island paradise from *South Pacific*. And I have always wanted to walk into *Breakfast at Tiffany's*. I've read that Steve McQueen was originally considered for the George Peppard role. In my *Tiffany's*, it would be McQueen!
I'd like to be Irene Dunne in the films she made with Cary Grant. They were perfect together. I'd like to be Cary Grant's leading lady in just about all his movies but not *Suspicion*.

I've never seen Stanwyck's *Annie Oakley*, tho I have seen *Annie Get Your Gun.* Also saw *Sorry, Wrong Number* on TCM sometime in the last year. Good one.
I love a mystery.
This one is about a private eye who manages to unravel a scandal but in doing so sets in motion events that lead to more than one death. Along the way he falls in love with a murder victim's wife.

Does anyone know the title of this film?

I think *Caged Fury* could be it. I have literally been trying to locate the title of this film for decades. I now see that it's available in VHS format for under $20. Since my DVD player also has VHS, it would be worth it to me to find out if this is the one.
Thanks for contacting me. You know your movies.
