  1. Thanks, finance. I was sure of Laemmle and Wasserman, Goetz was my best guess for #3. This question reminded me of a story I read or heard recently. Alfred Hitchcock (whose last six pictures were made for Universal; Universal also has worldwide rights to several of his 50s classics, etc., etc.) had an office at Universal and had been close to Lew Wasserman in his heyday. However, in the 70s, Hitchock?s heyday had passed, though he still had the office. He confided to a friend, with great sadness, that Lew never stopped by to see him anymore?

    Here?s one:

A film historian, director, producer, actor, writer, critic had a heyday of his own a few decades ago. His best-known film was nominated for eight Oscars and won two. A few years later, another of his films was nominated for four and won one Oscar. The trajectory of his career faltered after that. But he didn?t disappear ? continued to direct from time to time, wrote some books, did some TV hosting, some acting (including on an acclaimed series).

His directing debut was under the aegis of a notorious low budget film company way back in the day ?and my question is: Who?s the filmmaker, what was the company and the name of the movie?

  2. Thanks, finance.

I was born in New York, attended dramatic school and worked my way to the movies via summer stock and Broadway. In the end, my film career covered six decades. I played a variety of roles, though may be best remembered for a certain ?type.? I also became also became associated with a particular genre. I was nominated for more than one Oscar and won one. I also earned an Emmy Award. There were rumors that linked me romantically with one of my best-known and most frequent co-stars?but I?m not talking!
