  1. Here?s one?

John Gilbert?s second wife, Leatrice Joy, bought a lamp with a red silk lampshade for his study one Christmas and she asked their Chinese houseboy to decorate it with Chinese characters in black brushwork?he did so and they were both pleased with the result. Then one evening they had an actress friend for dinner who, they naturally assumed, could read Chinese and they asked for a translation of the characters on the lamp. The guest hesitated but finally told them that the houseboy had inscribed each panel of the lampshade with ?Crazy boss lady is a *!&*!#*$ fool!?

Who was the actress who was able to read the Chinese characters?

  2. Here?s some clues ? this was on TCM within the last week or so and in 1941, Cary Grant and Myrna Loy starred in a Lux Radio Theatre version of the story, and in 1948, Ann Sothern and William Powell starred in another Lux Radio Theatre version.
