Gone with the Wind and Lawrence of Arabia
audreyforever replied to MissScarlett123's topic in Films and Filmmakers
Well, with Rhett being very rich in GWTW, I think it proves money can't buy love. And I think he fell in love with Scarlett because he was impressed with her determination to restore Tara and here business skills (which made a lot of ppl hate her). As for Ashley and Meanie, I think the movie would have to be 7 hours to go in depth with there relationship. There's just not enough time. -
Great Post hamradio! Your absolutely right. Back in the 30s and 40s no one (even the race being "targeted") would of objected. Movies nowadays are like a hypocrite. They take pride in the politically correct thing and twist it all around. Song of the South is one of the best family movies and a classic example of people just wanting to entertain an audience. Yet, we have morons nowadays who won't put it out on DVD because it exemplifies the Uncle Remus character. Don't get me wrong, I AM NO RACIST, but in all seriousness, is there anything wrong with Song of the South...NO!

Gone with the Wind and Lawrence of Arabia

> {quote:title=ValentineXavier wrote:}{quote} > > GWTW is an overly dramatic soap opera. The plot seems very contrived, and much of the dialog laughable. I don't think 'soap opera' justifies GWTW. After all, the real 'ooey-gooey' romance doesn't start till the 3rd hour when Scarlett and Rhett finally get married. And, I find that to be the core of the romance in that film, not soap opera (we are all entitled to an opinion). The only thing I find laughable is when Rhett says "maybe you'll have an accident" and a millisecond later Scarlett falls down the staircase. I mean C'MON! ?:| -
Wow, I'm shocked I missed it when it was on last May! Hopefully it will return...

Movieman, i've seen 20 of your films...what a great list! I especially like that you picked The Devil and Miss Jones, a truly underrated and hilarious film!

This should not be taken as a complaint thread, but why oh why doesn't TCM show this film or the WAC release it? This is a wonderful piece of MGM corn/fluff made in 1942. Ann Sothern, Red Skelton, and Rags Ragland, who could ask for anything more?!? B-) I know most people here would rather see more Fox and Universal films to appear on the schedule, but this is a gem that should be scheduled. Thanks TCM!

I'm surprised they just don't program a day of his films from 6 AM to 8 PM stock full of his RKO/MGM/WB work as kind of an appetizer (if there ever be full meal). I know it's scarce compared to Paramount and such, but at least it's there.

"Ice Follies of 1939" scheduled for Nov. 18, 2011

I can't wait to see this film! -
How in the world do you try to listen to everyline line of dialogue from that film?!?!?!? It's really a terrific film from all aspects. Cary should of been nominated!

And Ben is excellent at doing that! It's just that (and I hate bringing up politics on these boards) I am not a fan of his attitude on the radio show he appears on. I enjoy looking at both sides of politics, but he is very biased and concieted, as they all are, on The Young Turks. Edited by: audreyforever on Aug 13, 2011 5:16 PM

I, obviously, do not hate him in any way, but I'm not a huge fan of Ben. That's just the truth.

You know what I think would be an awesome documentary? The History of Special Effects, from The Great Train Robbery to Avatar, and everything in between!

That's the sad part. -
I agree, there are so many great documentaries that have never been made.

Maltin: On the money or off-target?

I just read a wonderful article on Leonard Maltin's Movie Crazy entitles "Comedy Goes Down the Toilet". A really great article on why the raunchiness is comedies now is just getting out of hand. He's definitely on the money on this one! -

Which Star is the Most Frequently Aired on TCM?
audreyforever replied to JefCostello's topic in General Discussions
Very Possible. But you also have to keep in mind famous character actors; unless your just looking for leading stars. -
Found Out Star of the Month December
audreyforever replied to audreyforever's topic in General Discussions
If they can get some of his silents, the nights will probably run along the lines of this: Week 1: Silents Week 2: Pre-Code/Warner Bros. Week 3: The Thin Man Series Week 4: 1936 (Terrific Year in Powell's Career, this would exlude After the Thin Man) Week 5: Later Years 5 Weeks is only possible if they can squeeze him into the Thursdays of the month, so maybe with four weeks thay will definitely do 24-hour tributes. -

I'm sure it will be included countessdelave! It will be an exciting month! TopBilled- Do you think they can do 24 hour tributes like Rooney and Bogie from the last two Decembers? They will probably show his documentary. -
TCM DROPS BALL W/ 'SWEET MUSIC' (DVORAK/VALLEE)
audreyforever replied to SteveBeasley's topic in Films and Filmmakers
Let's hope they reschedule it soon. I'm not mad at all though. TCM is on the money 99.9% of the time. This was by far a raritie. -
