It makes me sick to think of it.
-
Yes, but of those three, my favorite is The Hustler.
-
Ok, thanks for the clear up.
-
Well, I trust those are his favorites.
-
No, it's all right!

-
No, I haven't seen Lady Killer. I've really been trying to dig deep in the WB vault to watch even the littlest known films that have gangster/crime elements in it. Even some stuff like San Quentin or Alcatraz Island can be put in this genre.
-
Really? What about Mission to Moscow, Yankee Doodle Dandy, This is the Army, Dodge City, Four Daughters, and Captains of the Clouds?
-
Personally, some of my favorite films to watch are gangster/crime pictures, and even more specific, WB gangster/crime films form the 1930's. Here's my personal list of the top 10 of Hollywood's Golden Age:
1) Scarface: the Shame of a Nation (1932)
2) White Heat (1949)
3) The Roaring Twenties (1939)
4) The Public Enemy (1931)
5) Little Caesar (1931)
6) Angels with Dirty Faces (1938)
7) High Sierra (1941)
8) The Petrified Forest (1936)
9) G-Men (1935)
10) Bullets or Ballots (1936)
This is not final, I may have forgotten one or two, so please help fix or revise it and add your comments.

> Already, people are saying I will fail at analyzing this film if I only watch it once. So I need to spend more time on it. But it is also not good to spend four hours on it and go through it slowly? I should let it go by quickly, so as not to detect Curtiz' errors or plotholes. Give me a break.
If you mean that it is not accurate, then your right. No movie can be perfect (expect SITR... :x ) , but surely it should be about how much you love it. Honestly, I don't think we should make this whole thing into such a big deal. Although this movie consistently ranks as one of the best in history, there are still people who think it's boring and stupid. For all I could care, this thread could be about someone watching Attack of the 50ft Woman for the first time!

Actually, it was only one year.
-
Well, you know, if your blue and you don't know what to watch, watch Young Frankenstein!

Also:
Ninotchka
It's a Gift
The General
To be or Not to Be
Dinner at Eight

I can't wait to see their chemistry....it must be glamorous!

Good idea, we want Jarrod to get the most out of the movie.
BTW---here are the awards Casablanca has received over the years:
Academy Award for Best Picture
Academy Award for Best Director
Academy Award for Writing Adapted Screenplay

And even all the different characters and stories going on at once. The first time you see it you don't notice much, but then you find it interesting to hear what's actually going on in their lives.
Sorry Jarrod, I won't be a spoiler any more.....

-
He sure is, he's great in his Perry Mason films!
-
I don't see why you need to call this thread the Ant-Casablanca thread considering you haven't even seen the film yet. You might just end up loving it, but you can't tell until you've seen it. But, as Holly said, if you do watch it, go all out and watch it on Blu-Ray. It is so much better and intense, and captivates you more.
For me, I had to watch this film more that once, in fact, three times before I knew what it meant and understood what everybody said. It is truly one of those masterpieces that even when you've watched it for the 10th time, you still see something new.

I would agree, BC&SK is much more fun and probably can be watched by most people, whereas the other tow are sometimes rough to watch.

> Bad news is that approx 78% of all movies made from 1900 - 1940 are considered lost forever!

That goes to show how many films were made that we don't even know about!
-
My most anticipated film for GR month is on in a few days!

-
He probably did, but now that I remember, Monroe would of been dead or close to dead by the time the film was made.
-
During the Yankee Doodle Dandy number, I used to think he danced so weird, but so talented at the same time. And how about the scene towards the end where he dances down the staircase?
-
Oh yah, Demarest would be an awesome choice.
-
Not bad choices...
