I agree about Adam Sandler I think its the young pot heads who like him. Also agree about 2001 I thought it was just me but I just don't get this movie either. I doubt the future will be like that, to weird. cat

My sister and I cannot talk about this man without getting into an argument. She dislikes his movies and I like most of them. Saw Vicky, Cristina Barcelona in the theatre last yr and loved it. Penelope Cruz won best supporting actress for her role and she deserves it. I can't pass up talking about Javier Bardem what a talented actor, he goes from a killer (who should have won an oscar for that role) to a sex pot in this pic. Whatever you say about the man he can write and direct. cat

I watched a few of his movies yesterday, I believe he has talent but maybe a little one dimensional I enjoyed Bonnie and Clyde, and stayed up to see Reds since I had not seen it before. First I have to admit I love most movies about the Russian revolution. I liked it, how true it was I would have to read his book (john reed) its 3 hrs long and but kept my attention and in the end I felt his passion about his beliefs. War can bring everyone out of the woodwork expressing their beliefs and I enjoyed the interviews with the people that had known him. Anyway anyone else see it?

I know we all have different feelings about actors, but to say that Audrey Hepburn doesn't have any bit to her ability to act what about "The Nun Story", I love that movie and I thought she was great in it. Wow I don't get, but I guess thats what makes us all unique. cat

Hmmmm no thats not it I was born in 50 so the time frame is about right. Maybe the nuns in Queens were younger and nicer, I do remember a 3rd grade nun who was young and so sweet, about half way through the school year the kids were talking that she has just married Jesus (I guess had said her final vows) but the older ones I'm sorry were horrible and I don't think it had anything to do with discipline. cat

Sorry John but you didn't go to catholic school in bklyn, these nuts I mean nuns were brutal. Nuns in our school with names like Mary Timothy and DeChantel were two insane old bats who punched, pinched, slapped, and insulted their students, making every day a living hell. Any time one of them turned around, half the class made faces at them or gave them the finger. You had to be careful because they could turn o a dime and if you were caught you'd get beat to death and sent to hell before you could say an act of perfect contrition. Maybe if they let them get married things would have been better. (some text borrowed from another student at the school) cat

Great idea!! And I would imagine we are all different and have different reasons for why we pick ours but anyway here are mine, wasn't very hard when you start to look at movies you have seen 1. Last Batman movie - the music was overbearing, couldn't hear the people talking but once getting into the movie it really didn't matter 2. Place in the Sun - I just don't get this movie, why so many people love it, I thought it was boring both Elizabeth and Clift just sucked in it and at the end your ready to pull the cord yourself. 3. Four Feathers - think this movie has been made over a few times and it never gets better, you just don't care about this guy and whether he redeems himself or not 4. Out of Towners - been made over also, didn't like either of them but the last one really sucked and I am a lover of almost any Jack Lemmon movie this just proves that big stars do made movies that suck, also written by Neil Simon one of my favorite writers o well what can I say 5. Ok this is hard but I'm going to go with any Tarzan movie made, this is just a personel choice just couldn't get into these movies, and I just don't like movies with animals in them I keep thinking what did they have to do to these animals to get them to do their parts, hmmm still wondering 6. o darn sorry only 5 cat

O boy I would love to see this movie, I spent 6 months last year taking care of my sister who stills lives in bklyn, I went over the bridge every day to get to the hospital she was in. Also she lived in a Jewish Orthodox neighborhood, a great block to live on and the people were very nice, but to see an Orthodox with a christian was a definite no no.. Did you say he was Orthodox? Now adays more unorthodox are marrying outside their faith ex. Clinton and her new husband, but I would have to say an Orthodox Jew marrying a christian would be very hard to find. I saw a story about an strick Orthodox woman and a Palastine woman both from bklyn becoming friends last year and loved it and that was hard for people in there religion to accept. So I to ask Turner to please find this movie would love to see it, can you tell us where you did get to see it? Maybe its buyable anyway thanks for the tip. cat

I did watch this film also I like Widmark in most of his roles but this pic did fall short I believe on everyones part. Since John Ford is in most minds the best director out there somehow you expect to find everyone of his movies interesting but we all know that statement is incorrect and this pic shows it. It wasn't a total disappointment just remembering what people went through when going to the west and dealing with all that I can't imagine losing a child and looking for her or him years later. so sad

Thanks for the info on Ryan I loved the actor but I can see being the quiet man that he was being famous was not inportant for him just acting. I think maybe that is why some see him in a pic and are not sure of his name. I confess I have just discovered him myself after watching years of him in pics. But when he's on the screen you know it and watch all his moves. I will read the article about him and thank you for posting it, sounds very interesting.

Another great day of movies today with I'm sure one of everyone favorites actress Ingrid Bergman. It would be hard for me to say which movie I liked her best in because her talent is so great. One line in a movie I love is someone tells her she beautiful and she smiles and says "yes I am aren't I lucky" or something like that. At Christmas time I love watching The Bells of St. Mary, I went to catholic school and I don't remember any nuns like that, I'm not talking beauty the ones I knew were mean, I swore I would never send my kids there. Another hot day here in the south so I can stay inside and watch turner and eat ice cream. what a treat

What a treat we had when this great lady became a actress. I can't think of one movie she made that I didn't like. One of my favorites is 84 Charing Cross Road, its any interesting movie that would never be made today. Just conversations among two people about books with an ocean between them. She left us way to early and I believe her husband to this day still cannot talk about her. In her earlier pics she a beautiful sexy actor. Later her talent really shown through and her beauty became 2nd place. She's playing today in a movie called 7 Woman which I had never seen, so thanks turner for playing it today.

thanks I will ck those out

Ok I was around in the 60's I admit it, I went the way of most of kids in those days, the good old hippie days well the time was right for that but not for the movies, it would take me awhile (for many reasons blew some brain cells during that time) but its hard to think of a film I really like during that time. I know there must be some, I do like westerns How the West was Won is one of my favorites, and any pic with Hepburn (not Caterine the other one) in it I love. But my day sucks when I see a day of those movie years or worst Tarzan, o man thats really scraping the bottom of the barral. So I guess its a news day for me or talk shows I do like Wendy Williams show. And I can always turn on classic music from the bygone years.

I watch this movie every time turner has it on, when you see it you can see the range of talent that Fred has, if the director Wilder put Barbara Stanwyck with Fred what a great combination. I must say I love Stanwyck in almost any movie she's in. What a great range of talent she has going from comedy to drama seems easy for her. So anyway some might say that Fred talent is liminted, but I believe he comes accross in many of his movies as believable.

Thanks John for your remarks, I'm not sure I can tell the difference between the film tapes they used, its like the new tv's I have a hard time seeing the new type that is suppose to be so clear, not sure if its worth the money. But I bet you noticed it all and have allready invested in one.

I reply to a post and hit the post message and nothing happens, so I open another tcm forum copy the post on the other site and paste it on the new forum and then it goes through? Weird right!! (also I thought I posted this question allready but can't find it) thanks for any help

Yes and he was really torn between doing this "go between" and feeling that what he was doing was really wrong. Enough to write his mother and tell her he wanted to go home. Eventually when we do things wrong most of time we get caught and the sh*t hits the fan as in this pic. But I did like the film and loved Julie in it.

Yes I did get to see that yesterday also, it was interesting to see how different people were back then, they had to sneak their relationship because of their heritage. Well I guess there are those now that have that same problem. Nice to see the Marrage this weekend between a Jew and a Christian people are being more excepted now and marrying out of their race and religion.

It is sad with so many movies available that they repeat alot. I did love How Green was my Valley and did watch it over and over. Glad I switched over to FIOS hope they don't get rid of it. I don't watch it alot but I like the option of having it. Also All about Eve another great movie.

Had to response to the Classic viewer I love the movie Magnificent Ambersons, they don't show it enough on turner for me. Well I do have a place in my heart for movies that take place around the late 1800's and early 1900's. I can get alittle annoyed when they start showing movies from the 60's exception How the West was Won, love that movie also, well westerns are one of my favorites too. If I could pick a time to be around I would love to go West young one, I know there were alot of hardships but what an exciting time to see wagons going westwood. Too bad I don't believe in Reincarnation would love to come back then. I know its backward but some might say I am. haha

Julie Christie day, started slow, got better...
bklynrose replied to FredCDobbs's topic in General Discussions
Hi Fred I agree with you about Julie, the way she acts does seem to repeat itself alot, it reminds me of Natalie Wood the way she always turned her head in her movies. But it worked for her and seems to work for Julie also. I tried watching Maddening Crowd but it was way off my mad meter and really couldn't get into it. But it was a treat to watch most of her movies yesterday I like when they show a day of one perticular actor, but thats me others might not like it. But like I said yesterday Dr zhivago is one of my favorite movies and I watch it every time its on. -

Did anyone get to catch her latest movie last year called "Away from her" she was up for an Oscar supporting for her role. She plays an alzhtimers patient and does a really good job with it. The movie can be slow at times but the reality of this horrible illness comes to life in this movie and shows how people can cope going through it. Its worth seeing and would love to know how others liked it. -

Far from the Madding crown, I missed the first hour of this movie, but even so with Peter Finch in it I would watch the last 15 minutes of any movie he is in. I saw him not to long ago on Turner in the Nuns story and fell in love (and believe me thats not an easy task for me). He was great in that with Audrey Hepburn he lights up the screen and the sexually that goes back and forth from him to her is magnetic. Another movie I would always watch whenever its on turner.
