Movies that scared me as a child weren't horror movies at all. Here are the images that haunted my nightmares-- SNOW WHITE -- my earliest movie memory was being scared of the old hag reveal moment. Scared me as a toddler, love it now! DARK CRYSTAL -- when they suck the essence out of the podlings -- scary! THE SECRET OF NIMN -- everything about this, but especially the lab rat experimentation sequence THE WITCHES (1990) -- Classified as "family" for some reason. I recently rewatched this one because it's on the Halloween playlist on HBOMax, and I see why this traumatized little kid me. I was horrified by the kid turning into a mouse, the witches revealing their scary faces, but mostly the kid being trapped in a painting.... RETURN TO OZ -- still can't face this one!! The wheelies, faceless witch, and other creepy stuff in Oz is bad enough, but the scariest part to me is the electric shock therapy at the beginning - AAAAAAA!!!!!! Meanwhile I watched Hitchcock, JAWS, and JURASSIC PARK with no fear at all....

For my money, this is scarier than ANY horror movie!
