  1. Just watched POLTERGEIST-- love the kids in that move especially the little girl with the huge eyes
  2. Bigelow, Billy - Gordon MacRae in CAROUSEL
  3. And don't forget-- Santa makes an appearance in THE ROAD TO UTOPIA
  4. I made that comment before I saw this, which goes along with my point: > {quote:title=helenbaby wrote:}{quote}Maybe it has more to do with the director than the children. And I have to say that, this being said, if the kid is just annoying there's no getting around it. Edited by: LonesomePolecat on Nov 15, 2012 7:02 PM
  5. Have you ever noticed that good movies have good child actors, and if a child actor is bad it kinda ruins the whole movie?
  6. *CATCH ME IF YOU CAN,* too. "We're always talking on Christmas!" I don't think I'll ever be able to hear Nat King Cole singing "The Christmas Song" without seeing Leo looking through the window at his mom's new family.

  8. It's not hedgin forum rules to PM people about the start date-- I've gotten PMs before and I think it's a great idea. I'll try to think of ways to promote. I think these challenges are way too fun and we should do them more often. I have lots of ideas for next time already.
  9. Yes, finance got you started, but lavenderblue completed the puzzle. It was the great MILDRED herself. She rocks my socks. And now, lavender, the torch is thine....
  10. Well I'm glad #4 was a movie I'd never heard of--makes me not feel so forgetful. Okay then, another common actor: 1. A lowly prostitute trying to lead a young sailor astray 2. A witch hypnotist 3. Blueberry muffins 4. Her daughter and new son in law live many flights upstairs
  11. > {quote:title=TopBilled wrote:}{quote} > *Eric Blore* > > About Henry Fonda in THE LADY EVE: > > Oh, is that what it is? I knew he was... peculiar. My favorite Blore bit is in one of those Fred & Ginger movies (I get them mixed up since he's in all of them) when he's in prison on his one phone call and he's trying to spell the name of the prison so he can get picked up, but he keeps getting misunderstood. Okay, why am I trying to explain it? "We are not cavemen, Spongebob, we have technology!" I'll just find a clip... Here's a clip and apparently it's from Shall We Dance (not a good clip but what can you do?)
  12. For me it's not Halloween til I watch this classic Disney cartoon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfWf3wjuukM
  13. well I'll guess 1- Night of the Hunter 2- Lolita 3- Patch of Blue but that's all I got
  14. I'm so glad for all the positive comments about truly the greatest TITANIC movie ever made, *A NIGHT TO REMEMBER*. Generic title for a fab flick. Everyone should see it But we digress. Let's get back to bad movies. Any other horrible movies you have seen? Another hilariously bad MST3K movie is *THE INCREDIBLY STRANGE CREATURES WHO ... BECAME MIXED UP ZOMBIES* (can't remember the whole title-- we just call it MIXED UP ZOMBIES). So bad-- firstly it sounds like they never took the mike out of the box. Second, the zombies themselves are very bad looking. Thirdly the characters are not interesting and are badly written and acted. And finally, and most amusingly, they introduce three plots, then instead of going into the stories they fill the movie with shots of the Santa Monica Pier and a bunch of random bad musical numbers like "Shick out of Shape" and an middle aged woman scatting. Good times.
  15. > {quote:title=Sepiatone wrote:}{quote} > > > > > The scathing treatment of 1997's *Titanic* illustrates the prejudice of the "classic" film enthusiast. Why, for instance, be so derogatory about the historical, story and technical flaws in Cameron's film while not mentioning the same level of story, fact and technical flaws in the 1950's movie with Stanwyck and Webb? > See, the thing is, I love many recent movies--I adore them. I own many of them. The other thing is that I hate the 1997 TITANIC because I consider it to be a bad and pretentious movie that in no way lives up to what it could have been, and is written badly. That's my own personal opinion, though. And finally, I hate that 1950s TITANIC, too. Hate it. So there goes your argument. I'm just kidding about your argument, by the way, it just sounded funny. I totally understand what you mean, and I do agree, that we forgive a lot of cheeziness, incorrect science, historical inaccuracy, and bad acting/writing/filmmaking in classic movies. The problem with comparing the classics with the "moderns" is that most of the mediocre to really bad old movies have had time to fall off the planet.

Bad acting, bad writing, bad characters- all bad enough to put it in a league with the worst of the worst of big studio HOLLYWOOD dreck...But what *really steamed my beans* was how boldly innacurate the film is with regard to many historical aspects of the actual sinking; there are some cases where they *outright lie about the actions of real people.* They portray an actual petty officer on the ship as taking bribes: no evidence of that. None at all. > > > And then you factor in the fact that it takes an *actual tragedy* , misrepresents and exploits and belittles it by including this utterly inane love story at the heart...ugh! > > > And Phillip Seymour Hoffman and throwing the f***ing necklace overboard at the end and BILLY ZANE!!!!! there is so much wrong with this movie, I have other things to do today but trust me, I could be here a while. > > > So take all those factors and multiply it by the worldwide hysteria, MEDIA SATURATION and INEXPLICABLE CRITICAL RAVES that accompanied this STUPID, OVERLONG, BLOATED AMATEUR NIGHT IN DIXIELAND VENTURE OF A MOVIE and it rates as low a score as Monster-a-Go-Go in my book. > > Edited by: AddisonDeWitless on Oct 28, 2012 12:46 PM > ps- and Cameron's acceptance speech... > Addison! I love you! You are truly a kindred spirit!! The Titanic is one of my favorite topics, so naturally I hate the film. I keep running into people who love this movie and I think "WHY?!!!!!?" So much horribly wrong with it, like how basically this movie is a fanfiction and Jack and Rose are "merry sues" (or "mary sues"?) who in reality wouldn't have ever been listened to. Then of course all the historical problems, like the fact tht Jack couldn't just walk around the 1st class dining area in a tux and blend in because everyone in that room knew everyone else (1st class was a very tightly knit circle) or the fact that they never could have spoken to each other because 3rd class couldn't even get up to 1st class area. And then of course it's wrong so much not even historically, but scientifically too, like the fact that J&R would have been sucked under the boat had they really left the boat when they did (shouldn't have been too hard to research that--that's why lifeboats didn't go back at first, they were afraid to get sucked under!), or that they would have died from being waist deep in the freezing water as long as they had. Maybe if he'd done a LITTLE research or had someone else write it or not directed his first draft... Anyway, I could go on all day, so I'll stop there. A NIGHT TO REMEMBER is the only true Titanic movie to me.
  17. Yes, Maggie Smith is absolutely right! And since this has gone really long I'll just tell you it was her role in DOWNTON ABBEY-- she stole that series, let's face it. Edythevanhopper, you're up!
  18. Yay, someone got it! I agree, simply smashing lyrics! You're up!
  19. Van Gogh, Vincent - Kirk Douglas in LUST FOR LIFE
  20. Excellent, lavender! A great man, isn't he? You're up...
  21. Classic dumb blonde moment: "Mr Oxley has been complaining about my punctuation, so I've been careful to get here before 9." Film? Speaker?
  22. There are ever so many wonderfully bad movies I've seen thanks to MST3K, and bad for different reasons. My favorite in terms of badness I think is *SPACE MUTINY*. This 80s Star Wars rip off is bad all around, from the 40 year old ingenue to the band uniform/leotard costumes. But it's very special because of one mistake: a character is very obviously killed in one scene--it's a major plot point--yet somehow she's alive and working at her desk a couple scenes later. Three editors and not one noticed?! Such an obviously hilarious error! There were lots of jokes like, "It's nice of you to give that dead woman another chance," and, "Look alive! Oh, sorry."
