  1. Without reading any posts this thread at all, I just want to put in my 2 cents that Michael Curtiz is amazing. He's one of my top 10 favorite directors. Love the pacing, acting, relationships, etc, in movies I can watch over and over and never get sick of like Yankee Doodle Dandy, White Christmas, Robin Hood, We're No Angels, and Casablanca of course. I love that his hand in things is kind of invisible, like he's putting his actors in place then getting out of the way-- his style is not auteuristic like a Welles film, though there's nothing wrong with that, but I prefer "invisible" directing myself.
  2. twinkeee-- I have to agree about the styles. I am a little bit too in love with Art Deco. Living in LA rocks because I'm surrounded by Art Deco buildings. Let's just all get an Art Deco house together! With a huge movie theater of course with a screen for every kind of film, even Cinerama!
  3. Also from BELLS ARE RINGING: "Can he dance like FRED ASTAIRE?" Song: "It's a Perfect Relationship"
  4. Might we have a few more lines from the song please?
  5. I love the music of that time, and I wouldn't mind visiting the 20s in a time machine or something, but I wouldn't want to live through the great depression. What am I saying? That's what I'm doing now! This thread makes me think of MIDNIGHT IN PARIS, anyone else?
  6. Capuchin, that is brilliant! I often go as some kind of classic movie character--I've done Harpo for example. I never decide til right before i leave (I have a house full of cosumes), so you'd have to ask me later what I'm going as this year.
  7. Very good, SIlverwolf! I was going for "The Many Adentures of Winnie the Pooh" which encompasses all three of them. You're next!
  8. > {quote:title=finance wrote:}{quote}I NEVER got the impression that Clift loved her. Maybe he eventually convinced himself that he did. See? That's what I mean. That's why it's so awesome-- everyone sees the film differently. That's why it's so fun. Another from the same original author is THE INNOCENTS, in which you are never quite sure what happened.
  9. casablancalover, I adore that house! One of my favorite shows ever and one of the coolest houses, too.
  10. When I saw the word "ambiguity" the first film I thought of was *The Heiress*. I think the film does a great job of keeping you guessing. Does he love her? Is it a con? You are never quite sure. Just when you think you're sure, they throw a curve at you to put you back on the fence. Of course it can be argued either way, but that's the fun of it.
  11. Naughty Marietta next: Sebastian Cabot John Fiedler Sterling Holloway

  13. Ward Bond has lots of performances that were great but didn't last long, like the memorable bus driver in IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT
  14. I accidentally started a thread about this same thing -- didn't see this thread -- but this is the house I love most: Swiss[/i]Tree+1960.jpg]
  15. > {quote:title=SonOfUniversalHorror wrote:}{quote}This is the exact same sort of thread as the one already here: > > http://forums.tcm.com/thread.jspa?threadID=166580&tstart=0 DIdn't see that thread-- and I even looked for one!
  16. > {quote:title=filmlover wrote:}{quote}The Disney Beauty and the Beast castle (after the curse has been lifted, of course) because of the incredible library. > > I AGREE!!!! This, though, is the house I want to live in: Swiss[/i]Tree+1960.jpg] (The Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse)
  17. Ever watch a movie and think "Man, I want that house"? What are your favorite houses/castles/apartments/dwellings in movies?
  18. Yeah I saw the sequel to ADAM'S RIBS when Spencer Tracy got drafted to the 4077th MASH and went through heck trying to get those Adam's Ribs to Korea.
  19. (Dr) Teeth - played by Jim Henson in THE MUPPET MOVIE
