  1. Never even heard of that one. Sounds like Olympia but without Nazis. Must see it.
  2. That makes sense. I didn't think it was a Disney production-- hence why I said I saw it on that channel and not that it was a Disney movie. Didn't want to give credit where credit wasn't due. A disney olympic movie I do like is "Miracle" -- not a "great" movie, but I enjoy it.
  3. There are a fair few Olympic themed movies out there, which is your favorite? I have to say, as much as I love the "famous ones", my favorite was this miniseries (or 4 hour TV-movie, I guess) that I saw on the Disney Channel back in the '80s (back when the Disney Channel was cool and not just for pre-teens and under). It was called *THE FIRST OLYMPICS: ATHENS 1896.* the only cast members I remember were David Ogden Stiers and Louis Jourdan. It was so interesting to learn about how the modern olympics got started, how hard it was to get anyone on board to participate or sponsor (my how things have changed), how the athletes had to figure out the events from looking at pictures ancient pots, how we didn't have a national anthem at the time, how the American team almost didn't make it because the Greeks were on a different calendar, and other interesting bits of trivia. As Roger De Bris would say, "It's just full of historical goodies like that!" Not sure if y'all saw that, but it has stuck with me since I saw it as a little kid.
  4. Best speaking voice as in "beautiful" for me (since Morgan Freeman is still working, so not purely a classic actor), it's gotta be Gregory Peck. Best speaking voice in terms of "interesting voice", well, I think Eugene Pallette has such an interesting voice. Best use of their voice to me is Maggie Smith-- she finds such interesting ways to say things. But most Brits do. If she's not "classic" enough, then Lionel Barrymore wins. Best singing voice? Well, for me, as a swoony chick who loves male singers, nothing beats Howard Keel. Though Gordon MacRae is a close contender.
  5. 168 "Oh this is the night It's a beautiful night And they call it Bella Notte"
  6. And don't forget, *Dick Powell* is really playing the piano in GOLD DIGGERS OF 1933 diggers[/i]powell.jpg] And *Dub Taylor* was actually hired for YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU because he could play the xylophone (plus he rocks) Plus, apparently *James Stewart* could play the accordion and is actually playing it in DEAR BRIGITTE Edited by: LonesomePolecat on Jun 29, 2012 4:25 PM Edited by: LonesomePolecat on Jun 29, 2012 4:33 PM Edited by: LonesomePolecat on Jun 29, 2012 4:34 PM

  10. Well I am always most annoyed at amazing actors who never got nominated in their lives. Here are some those people and what I think are the films they could have at least been nominated for (purely based on what I think is their best performance, not based on who actually won that year) MYRNA LOY - Best Years of our Lives WARD BOND - The Long Voyage Home JOSEPH COTTEN - Shadow of a Doubt ERROL FLYNN - Robin Hood, of course! EDWARD G ROBINSON - Double Indemnity (yeah, I no, not a gangster film) or The Whole Town's Talking MARILYN MONROE - The Misfits FRED MACMURRAY - Double Indemnity or The Apartment PETER LORRE - Maltese Falcon MAUREEN O'HARA - The Quiet Man KIM NOVAK - Vertigo Okay, some of these people aren't amazing, but plenty of winners have been pretty bad

  18. Personally I hate 3D, I think it's a fun gimmick at Disneyland for Muppets 3D and Captain Eo, but for any movie longer than 10 minutes I think it's stupid. I don't know about you guys, but my eyes adjust to the 3D after not too long, so it's like watching a 2D movie through fuzzy glasses. What is the big deal? Am I missing something? And I think Casablanca would not be a better movie in technicolor and especially in 3D. Color was around back then. Color is as old as cinema. I think color takes the texture out of a film. Watching The Artist reminded me of that. But I know mostly I'm preaching to the choir on this thread. This all reminds me of that song in Silk Stockings: "I lately did a picture at the bottom of the sea I wrestled with an octopus and licked an anchovy But the public wouldn't care if she had drowned Unless she had Glorious technicolor Breathtaking cinemascope And stereophonic sound" (just change it to 3D and dolby digital surround)
