  1. Well I am always most annoyed at amazing actors who never got nominated in their lives. Here are some those people and what I think are the films they could have at least been nominated for (purely based on what I think is their best performance, not based on who actually won that year)

MYRNA LOY - Best Years of our Lives

WARD BOND - The Long Voyage Home

JOSEPH COTTEN - Shadow of a Doubt

ERROL FLYNN - Robin Hood, of course! :)

EDWARD G ROBINSON - Double Indemnity (yeah, I no, not a gangster film) or The Whole Town's Talking

    MARILYN MONROE - The Misfits

FRED MACMURRAY - Double Indemnity or The Apartment

    PETER LORRE - Maltese Falcon

MAUREEN O'HARA - The Quiet Man

    KIM NOVAK - Vertigo

Okay, some of these people aren't amazing, but plenty of winners have been pretty bad

  2. As soon as I figured this one out it made me so happy:

*Danny Kaye can't decide if the pellet with the poison is in the vessel with the pestle or the chalice from the palace or the flagon with the dragon in the Court Jester*

    ::applause::

next, a song from many songs:

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat featured the song "Close Every ___" +Music Man song "The Wells Fargo Wagon __ a-comin' down the street" Oklahoma song "Many a New ___" sang another Joseph... song "___ Dream Will Do" Streisand hit "The ___ We Were" Pocahontas song "Colors of ___ ___" Elton John song "Tell Me when the whistle __" +in the film Beatles lyric "Help me get my feet back on the ground, won't you ___ help me?" Bobby McFerrin hit "___ Worry, Be Happy" Weird Al's parody of "Beat It" was called "___ It" Mel Torme wrote and sang "___ Christmas Song" + The Gershwins wrote "I got ___ in green pastures"

  3. Personally I hate 3D, I think it's a fun gimmick at Disneyland for Muppets 3D and Captain Eo, but for any movie longer than 10 minutes I think it's stupid. I don't know about you guys, but my eyes adjust to the 3D after not too long, so it's like watching a 2D movie through fuzzy glasses. What is the big deal? Am I missing something?

And I think Casablanca would not be a better movie in technicolor and especially in 3D. Color was around back then. Color is as old as cinema. I think color takes the texture out of a film. Watching The Artist reminded me of that. But I know mostly I'm preaching to the choir on this thread.

This all reminds me of that song in Silk Stockings:

"I lately did a picture at the bottom of the sea

I wrestled with an octopus and licked an anchovy

But the public wouldn't care if she had drowned

    Unless she had

    Glorious technicolor

    Breathtaking cinemascope

    And stereophonic sound"

(just change it to 3D and dolby digital surround)

  4. To me a character actor is someone who plays anything other than a traditional ingenue or hero, which is probably too broad, but that's the only way I can think of it. But by my definition, a character actor can be a lead in a movie, yes indeed. Just like Ward Bond is the main character in WAGON MASTER.

  5. *Danny Kaye dances to "chica chica boom chic" in ON THE RIVIERA*

(Excellent. I never would have gotten that if I hadn't just seen ROOTS for the first time and known about Chicken George.)

    NEXT SONG:

Old TV Show "Walt ____ The Wonderful World of Color" MY MAN GODFREY's ___ Brady TEN LITTLE __DIANS THAT THING YOU DO band, the ______s "How'd you like to spend Christmas on Christmas Is___?" +featuring the song ___ YOUR WAGON PETER PAN tune "Follow___ ___ Leader" New Year's Day Parade is also called the Tournament of ___ Parade Sleeping Beauty had lips that shame the __ rose +sung by Cole Porter tune "You're ___ Top" Classic oldie "They Call Me ___ Yellow" + ROBIN HOOD: ___ IN TIGHTS

  6. *"I Can't Be Bothered Now!"*

a lovely *Gershwin* tune sung by *Fred Astaire* (who else) in *DAMSEL IN DISTRESS*!

    -----------------

Now I can't remember if I'm supposed to wait for the ok, but here's the next one, also from memory:

    "She's so gay tonight

    Oh so gay tonight

    One gigantic romantic cliche tonight..."

    Song, singer, movie?
