*West Side Lady*
Those Sharks, Jets, and their girls just don't know how to speak correctly! This causes Henry Higgins to come to New York and say, "Why can't New York teach its gangsters how to speak?" He trains Riff's girlfriend Graziella the correct way to say, "The rain in Brooklyn stays mainly in The Bronx." Once trained to speak better, he takes her to mingle with high society types at a Broadway opening. Unfortunately he didn't teach her what to say, so she cusses out David Merrick. She is embarrassed, but the New York Times Theater Critic falls in love with her anyway and they run off together. Meanwhile the Jets decide they are jealous of Henry Higgins and his plans of gentrification for the neighborhood, so they have a rumble and kill him. He dies singing, "I've grown accustomed to this place..."

I adore Platinum Blonde, especially it's screenplay. It's probably my favorite Jean Harlow performance and definitely my favorite Loretta Young performance. That famous kising scene through that art deco fountain is so beautiful. Great movie, great characters.

6) Bette Davis' famous dress from the party scene was not supposed to be off the shoulder. Designer Edith Head made it to be a square neck, but accidentally made the shoulder part of the sleeves too big. When Bette Davis put on the dress the sleeves fell off her shoulders, but Bette liked it that way, so the mistake stuck.

Wow, what is going on with that post about the tallies? They sure didn't preview that way. Oh, technology. Well, it's too hard to recompile it all, but I remember that Kingrat had 4 votes, then sunny and countess tied at 3 votes, then I think everyone else just got 1 vote. Someone might have gotten 2 votes but I forget. Sorry about that. But Congrats to the King of the Rats!

Alrighty, then! Sorry for the delay of an entire day-- had some typical Mac trouble and couldn't open Safari all day. Alas. But anyway, here's the final tally:
*kingrat - 4*
sunny75 - 3
countessdelave - 3
skimpole - 1
fedya - 1
JamesinArlington - 1
So the winner is *KINGRAT*!! Congrats!!
It's been a real pleasure running this informal competition and seeing what everyone did with my challenge. But it will be more fun to see what I can do with KINGRAT's challenge next time. Yay!

Here's what I learned from the Hays Code:
-It's too racy to show a woman's belly button, but you can show all the leg and cleavage you want!

4) George Cukor was very briefly the director, his major contribution being that he "unHollywoodized" Dorothy's hair and makeup so she would look less glamorous and more like a Kansas farm girl. In other words, George Cukor is responsible for her famous "look".

I do agree. That's exactly why I qualified my statement with "IF she starred in enough films" -- not sure about that either.

What did you have for dinner?
