What old movie stars autographs do you have?
LonesomePolecat replied to BetteDavis19's topic in General Discussions
A friend of mine showed me one today. Her mother got it from a friend who once worked for Selznic, back in the 40s/50s. She got a personalized autographed photo of Tyrone Power with a typed explanation from the friend who got it (the friend called him Ty). It was so cute! -

Skim- Yay! Another great schedule! You made by day tributing Plunkett, my fav costume designer. ANd Yellow Submarine is definitely a cult film-- inspired choice. Lots of good stuff in there. James Mason definitely doesn't get enough praise, but then, Thomas Mitchell is often ignored as well, so double yay! Well, day #8 and already we have three very worthy opponents. I hope everyone else is working hard on their schedules. Can't wait to see what else y'all come up with!

Best classic film you did not watch on TCM this year...
LonesomePolecat replied to TopBilled's topic in General Discussions
Don't know about "best", but I did watch Dear Brigitte with Bill Mumy as a math genius in love with Brigitte Bardot. So fun and entertaining. And how can you beat Jimmy Stewart? What would really make my life is seeing TCM show What's So Bad About Feeling Good. I have always wanted to see that one. Please, TCM? -
I think we'd all love it if they brought back that contest.

SansFin- As Shirley Temple would say, "Oh my goodness gracious!" I love your film festival idea. So clever! I especially love the "Con Film Festival" -- and not just because I love so many of those films, but because the name is a brilliant parody I wish i thought of. ANd Irving Berlin is a great choice for your challenge. What a huge amount of songs he wrote, and all of them awesome. And Laura is certainly an essential. But the greatest idea of them all-- the one that set me laughing-- was "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." Brilliant. For the TCM Programmers-- please steal SansFin's idea and schedule The Reivers. I've wanted to see it ever since I heard excerpts from John WIlliams' amazing score at the Hollywood Bowl last summer. Please!

It was in fact my sister who said so. How did you know my sister was like that? You must have sisters of your own. And ugaarte, you are very kind! -
Okie dokie: This is a film title: "Tie a yellow ribbon round the old ____ tree" "___ a note to follow Sol" "___ is where the heart is" + "Hey, hey, Ma__, look sharp"

James-- Really enjoyed your schedule! Thanks ever so much for choosing a character actor as SOTM instead of a "star". Thelma Ritter is one of the best, too. Excellent choice. And thanks for scheduling What's So Bad About Feeling Good because I was not able to (I always include that film in my schedules, and will until they show it). So interesting to learn about you. Love the TV show choices. And I love that you just honored your favorite film composers rather than trying to pick one. That was a lovely way to meet the requirement. Great job!

I found this insulting.* > > > Hi LonesomePolecat . . . > > > I'm curious to know why you would find that comment insulting ? Drew Barrymore is a beautiful Lady, possessing strong, Classical traits/bone structure from her famous ancestors ... And she's radiantly Lovely in "Ever After" . . . > That is nice to hear. That means there is hope for me. I found it insulting because I don't think she's pretty, but mostly because the person who said it to me also thought Drew was ugly. More than that, she said it to me like "Sorry to say this, but you look like her."
