Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Bogie was miscast-- he totally rocks the films. I'm wondering about the countless women in the film who throw themselves at him based on his looks. That seems so strange to me.

Just watching THE BIG SLEEP on TCM, wondering why all those women throw themselves at Humphrey Bogart. I think he's a fabulous screen presence, but not a sex symbol or anything. Why?! There are other actors that are supposed to be good looking or attractive that I also think, "WHY?" such as Peter Lawford and Van Johnson. Any people you watch in a movie that are supposed to be attractive, but aren't?

Okay, here's a few more that definitely apply to my family: You know you're addicted to TCM if.... ....the only crossword puzzle you can actually finish is the one in the Now Playing Guide ....you talk about the TCM Message Board Posters as if they're your friends ....you never watch a movie without thinking of how to work it into a schedule for the next TCM Programming Challenge ....you force your friends to watch classic films the way others force friends to watch their vacation movies ....you refer to Drew Barrymore as John's granddaughter ....you are angry at Alan Hale Jr for using his brilliant father's sacred name to star in Gilligan's Island ....you talk about classic actors as though they are your friends ....you call classic actors by their first name ....your other TCM addict friends and family recognize who you're talking about when you call them by their first name ....you call the movie stars by their real birth names ....you call Laurence Olivier "Larry" ....you have your own private nicknames for classic films ....your other TCM addict friends and family know exactly what you mean when you say "Let's watch 'Nuckle-Boy' or 'Miracle'"

Thanks to an amazing friend, I have just been introduced to "THE INNOCENTS." This is a Fox film, so it will probably not me seen on TCM without pulling strings. But it is so amazing! I love a great scary movie with no crazy effects, just good writing, editing, acting, and photography. The kids are extra creepy and it's great.

In terms of Jo in LITTLE WOMEN, I think Kate was the best. Whether you like the acting or not, she was just like Jo in the books--knobby, thin, not a typical beauty, tom-boy-ish, etc. June Allyson is way too cute and feminine to play Jo in the first place.

Fozzie Bear - Frank Oz in THE MUPPET MOVIE

I too was introduced to a lot of foreign and indie films in college--- more than I can even remember the names of. My school had and still has something called the International Cinema where they play these movies every day at certain times. it was a great place to see these rarely seen films, and a cheap date, too.

Let me say that I adore Kate Hepburn, and I am fond of Dick Powell's singing voice so that forgives any cheesy acting choices in his earlier days (plus he's really quite good and believable in Christmas in July), and though, again, I am irritated by June Allyson, I would take her over Peter Lawford any old time.

GASP!!! Traceyk65, you only JUST saw Mockingbird?! I'm shocked! But hh how I envy you being able to discover that as an adult.

Yeah, SansFin, I remember seeing the Camelot night and I thought, "Hey, the stole that from the Challenge!"

Yesterday I had two occasions to think of this question. One was as I watched "I Confess" for the first time (had taped it off TCM a few months ago--loved it by the way). Another was in school as I wondered what classic movie I could introduce to my AP class (their AP test was Wednesday--perfect time to throw a movie at them). So I got to thinking of how many classic movies I was introduced to through school, or my parents, or TCM, or becaue a friend recommended it, or even because I rented it at the "video rental store" out of curiosity. Realized that most of them I saw thanks to my awesome parents, but not all. And I got to wondering if it's the same for all of you, or if you saw them differently. (Some of you might have seen them in the theater). So list some your favorite classic movies, or the first ones you can think of like me, and mention where you were introduced to the movie. Here's some of mine in the order I think of them in: FAVORITES: WHERE I SAW IT FIRST: The Apartment High School (in drama class!) West Side Story Home (raised with it) The Manchurian Candidate TCM Seven Brides for Seven Brothers Home (raised with it) It Happened One Night Home (through family) The Sting Home (through family) Strangers on a Train TCM Remember the Night TCM The Philadelphia Story Home (raised with it) The Court Jester College (through friends) 12 Angry Men TCM To Kill a Mockingbird High School (English) The Miracle of Morgan's Creek Saw the cover at the video store and tried it out Fantasia Parents took me to see a re-release in the theater That's all I can think of. I am greatly enjoying this thread. I just realized, I don't know why I didn't previously, but there is only one movie showing at each theater. Or am I reading that wrong? I never knew that it still worked that way in the '30s. When was the "multi-plex" born?

I think your "Beaver" sounds more entertaining than the original.

I for one am excited about this SOTM choice if only, as was mentioned, to have something different-- like the month they featured directors. That was refreshing too.

That's good to know about "Silence of the Lambs". Now that you mention "Freaks" one disturbing movie is "The Elephant Man." That movie is so sad and upsetting. Then to find out that while he was in college my dad played the guy who beat the Elephant Man!!! My father!!! NOOOOOO!!!!!

Robert Williams----- the awesome lead actor in PLATINUM BLONDE who died way too young. I LOVE him, and no one else knows him, and those that do forget what his name is. You Philistines! There are other character actors I adore that aren't obscure exactly but definitely do not get enough credit. One is Ward Bond. He is incredible and so underappreciated. WARD BOND FOREVER!!!

To put a plug in for the Challenge--- it's a great way to request a movie. I have had a few movies premiere on TCM only after I scheduled them as premieres on my schedule. For example, I have scheduled the great movie "Night Train to Munich" a couple of times, hoping they would get the hint and show this awesome film. Yesterday I got my Now Playing Guide for next month and they are showing it on June 1st!!!! So, folks, it's worth the effort, if only for that.

Film with the most disturbing content? Hmmmm. I don't watch those, but from what I've seen and heard, probably Silence of the Lambs, right? Film so bad it was disturbing and I now need therapy? Master Ninja I, Touch of Satan, Parts: The Clonus Horror, Werewolf, The '70s cartoon version of Lord of the Rings, The Room, Star Wars Episode II......
