"What comment shall I say to the gentlemen of the press?"

I'll have to second ScribeHard's mentioning of Grave of the Fireflies. That film is so devastating.
Most films that are supposed to make you cry do actually make me cry. One that gets me every time is You Can't Take it With You. When the neighbors band together to pay the fine, for some reason that just makes me tear up.

My favorite ones just to listen to are The Sting (Lucky Dan, your name reminded me of that one), Fantasia, North by Northwest, Magnificent Seven, Gone With the Wind, and the classic themes of John Williams, my favorite, however, being To Kill a Mockingbird. But I also adore the scores to Citizen Kane and Vertigo, though I can't just listen to them anytime. As a child of the 90s there are a LOT of film scores from that era that I adore (i.e. Hook, Little WOmen, Little Princess, Much Ado About Nothing, Sense and Sensibility...). More than anything though I listen to the lovely sounds of film musicals.

For bad casting I hate when a cast is extremely unbalanced. I think if both (or all) actors are equally matched, even if they're not the best themselves, it's better than if one is amazing and the rest are mediocre. For example, in SAYONARA, poor Marlon Brando has to act opposite whatshername (the chick he's engaged to) who is just not worthy of his abilities. She and Ricardo Montalban are not as good, or don't give as good performances, as Brando, Red Buttons, and Miyoshi Umeki, so it's really annoying. Whereas Howard Keel isn't the best actor, and neither is Kathryn Grayson, but when they're together they seem well cast. Ergo, balance is the main thing in casting, for my taste.

I too would like more articles and other features in the magazine. But I still love receiving and reading them.

The Lion, the Witch, and the Major and the Minor
Ginger Rogers pretends to be 12 so she can visit Narnia where she meets a Major in Aslan's army.

Tiki and Cujas - I too dislike Charles Boyer, but I know it's purely psychological -- the first movie I saw him in was Gaslight. From then on every other movie I see him in makes me scream "DON'T TRUST HIM!!!! HE'S A KILLER!!!" But then I guess if he was a better actor I wouldn't feel that way.

I'll bet they will. They can't resist a historical anniversary.

As a Pepe Le Pew fan, I can't help liking Chevalier.

I think the thing with Dick Van Dyke is that his bad accent is the one tragic flaw in his otherwise awesome performance, especially since his standard british accent for the old banker is really good. So you can't help wondering why someone didn't just say, "dude, just don't do an accent," or "just do your standard british," or something like that. Because, come on, Cary Grant played Yanks all the time using his same accent. But I know from Dick Van Dyke's interviews the poor guy knows his accent is terrible and is kind of embarrassed about it. And otherwise he's so good that I too can forgive him.
The accent that is funny to me is this: in Thoroughly Modern Millie, Julie Andrews and James Fox are both british, yet James Fox is the one who puts on an American accent, and Julie doesn't even try. Why one and not the other? It seems odd.

Very good Miles! Your thread!

I adore Hammerstein. Glad it paid off.
Here's the next one from an old movie. This song cracks me up:
"Monkeys upon a tree never are very blue
They never seem to be under par that is true
Not like the ones you see on a bar in the zoo
Monkeys upon a tree do the Monkey Doodle Doo"
Forget who sang it, just name the movie and the main stars of the movie.

I just saw "What's Up Tiger Lily" again, which is full of hysterical quotes. I'm going to mess these up but I love these quotes:
"I'm not sure who arranged my escape. My only guess is the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, but they have no motive."
"That's right, there are no bullets left in my gun. But if all the little children in the audience who believe in Fairies will clap their hands, my gun will be filled with bullets."
"It is written that whoever makes the best Egg Salad shall rule the world. Don't ask me why egg salad-- I have enough problems"
(sorry for butchering them, but the joke is still there)

That's a great song from "Robin and the Seven Hoods", called "You either got or you haven't got style", or maybe just "Style", sung by the great Sinatra, Crosby, and Martin!
Next:
Name song and singer and film, and if you're smart, song writer and lyricist for these clever lines
"The birds and bees with all of their vast
Amorous past
Gaze at the human race aghast!"
(p.s. Miles -- it's too funny you mentioning "Crazy For You" because I was just talking to someone who wants to be in my upcoming production and came on this thread hoping I could use some lyrics from it as the next clue, but I'm not going to now.
I have a video of the Broadway show "Crazy For You" back when it was on PBS and I think everyone should try to see it. It's so fun. Cujas, you should definitely watch it)
