  1. hamradio, your Laserblast comments made me laugh. But I think we can agree that the biggest problem with that movie is that it exists. Here's the movie done by MST3K: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uumSrL7X-U
  2. I guess 12 Angry Men is preachy, but to me it's just a great mystery. I don't even think about or notice the "message" aspect, only how the characters are revealed, how each one comes to the conclusion, and the usual funness of a whodunit. Every time I notice great character details. (But I did almost say Seven Brides for movies that I never get sick of.) Fiddler on the Roof is a show I did in community theater, too, which is part of my personal meaning.
  3. Last line of this hit movie (from memory, so it may not be exactly word for word): "Gentlemen, let's watch the cigarette butts. This is my apartment, not a pig sty."
  4. a lovely song. It was put into the revival (2008)--a wise choice.
  5. As you already know, I'm all ready for this! Can't wait what interesting challenge you give us.
  6. I think we've all thought about this a little. Actually, I think we've all dreamed "Let ME do it!!!!" Here's my vote (but it's hard to narrow it down to 5), all libraries aside -A film that has great personal meaning to you - *Fiddler on the Roof* (personal for many reasons--too many for this brief exercise) -A film that you think deserves a wider audience (either because it's obscure or not commercially available) - *Remember the Night* (1940) for always being overshadowed by other Christmas movies -A film that is pure escapist entertainment, you just love it no matter how many times you've seen it - *Twelve Angry Men* because I cannot ever get sick of it. Every time I watch it I get sucked in. -A film that features your favorite artist in a standout role - *West Side Story* (It's the best of many of my fav artists: Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, Robert Wise, Jerome Robbins, Ernest Lehman, not to mention the great art direction, costumes, cinematography, etc. Oh and the acting is pretty good.) -A film that represents your favorite director's best work - *The Apartment* (Billy Wilder is my favorite) I wouldn't have chosen those without those particular constraints. Interesting exercise. Not sure what I would pick without them though. But I would have had more funny things, definitely.
  7. Interesting thread in the light of Natalie Portman's oscar nomination. Now there's someone who always plays herself! Though I haven't seen the Black Swan, and do not wish to, so I'll give her the benefit of the doubt on this one.
  8. Nice, Ham, but you forgot the Twilight films! What utter rubbish. I am a mega MST3K (Mystery Science Theater 3000) fan, so I could name a lot of awful movies, but here are some of the worst that I've seen thanks to that series: Manos Hands of Fate The Touch of Satan Hobgoblins Werewolf Laserblast Space Mutiny The Pumaman
  9. I still remember that amazing month they showed Ghilbli films. That was incredible! I was introduced to so many of his films that I had never seen before. Cannot beat the incredibleness of Ghibli animation these days, esp. their amazing backgrounds. (I miss hand animation!) It was especially cool to have John Lasseter introduce them, as he is such a great fan and a great speaker.
  10. These are animated so incredibly well: IN NO ORDER AT ALL: Pinocchio Fantasia Sleeping Beauty Jungle Book Lady and the Tramp Bambi Sword in the Stone Winnie the Pooh (especially The Honey Tree and The Blustery Day) Icabod Crane (nothing against Mr Toad, but Icabod takes the cake) Peter Pan .....and I'm sure I forgot one I adore!
  11. I have too many #1s and I can't possibly put them in order of preference, so I'll say, in alphabetical order, Fantasia Pinocchio Sleeping Beauty Of course I adore pretty much all of them. Animation is an incredible thing to me.
  12. Queen of Hearts - Verna Felton in Disney's ALICE IN WONDERLAND
  13. My Mother's Castle (LA CHATEAU DE MA MERE) Hadn't seen this in a very long time, having only owned the first movie, La Gloire de Mon Pere (My Father's Glory). This one is just as good as the first one. What great filmmaking and story telling. What fascinating and human characters. The hilarity of the situations draw you closer to these characters, making the ending very poignant. (I shan't spoil the film). And how funny it is that Les Colines (The Hills) he is so in love with look exactly like my local mountains. This is a fantastic movie. And I'm not just saying that. Though I am biased towards the early 1900s and foreign films.
  14. Singing makes a hilarious title: How Can I Keep From Singing in the Rain? next: life
  15. Leander, Lee -- Barbara Stanwyck in REMEMBER THE NIGHT
