  1. Original choice for Harold Hill in *the Music Man* was Cary Grant. Can you believe that?! "I'm from Gary Indiana". "Yeah right."
  2. Since it's the only X I can think of, sorry it's not a classic though: Xavier, Charles - Patrick Stewart in the Xmen films
  3. *Mr Deeds Goes to Town* Walter Catlett Dickie Jones Cliff "Ukelele Ike" Edwards
  4. She was in a lot of movies, but Marjorie Reynolds is pretty much only remembered for "Holiday Inn" these days, and I don't think she's all that good---not bad but not good enough to sing with Bing and dance with Fred. I'd call her a one hit wonder.
  5. I think the Golden Globes are specifically trying to alienate everyone. As the LA Times put it, a couple of their best picture nominees were severely criticized by respected critics, and even mocked by them too. And, I'm sorry, but for pete's sake, Toy Story 3 was one of the best pictures of the year, whether they like it or not, and much better than Burlesque at any rate.
  6. I adore "We're No Angels". I look for it on TCM all the time hoping they'll show it. Alas. Someday though. It is very entertaining.
  7. Blackey!!! NOOOOOO!!!!! THis is the first time I've heard about this. I am so sad!!
  8. That is so funny! Christmas at the bates home. Truly inspired. Imagine what Christmas is like for ANY of Tennessee Williams' characters, eh? Scary!! On that note, here's a character who you shouldn't celebrate Christmas with: (Lionel Twain from Murder By Death, but, really, you shouldn't celebrate with Truman Capote either)
  9. Aw, they're doing commercials now, too? I loved that channel!
  10. Peter Lorre was in ARSENIC AND OLD LACE with Josephine Hull
  11. Pete- George Pappard in What's so Bad About Feeling Good (1968)
  12. I'd start a facebook page. People would send in money, since even "regular" people know Jimmy Stewart, thanks to It's a Wonderful Life.
  13. One movie that's about religion, but that isn't obvious, is Hitchcock's incredible The Wrong Man. The ending only works out because Henry Fonda prays for a miracle. Very interesting, eh?
  14. That is true, A Night to Remember could use a better title. How about "Attack of the Killer Ice Burg" --too much?
  15. I think most of the cinematic Scrooges add some interesting angle to the part. Alistair Sim and Reginald Oven are kind of "the originals" so of course they're great. But I love the crotchety nature of Albert Finney (Scrooge, 1970), the fact that he never cleans anything because it's too expensive, and how he thinks he is the most generous person on earth. Then there's George C Scott (1984) who is just frightening, which make it necessary to bring in the more frightening aspects of the book. I even love Michael Caine (Muppet Christmas Carol 1992) who brings this great dignity to the part, and for whom you have enormous sympathy. And of course, the Scrooge in Mickey's Christmas Carol (1982) brings his Scottish accent, which is always fun. Mr Magoo, of course, brings blind humor.
  16. Speaking of ...Mixed Up Zombies, there are all kinds of titles that you hear and you just KNOW they are bad movies, like Plan 9 From Outer Space or Samson vs the Vampire Women. Then there are titles that make a great movie sound stupid, a recent example being How to Train Your Dragon--sounds stupid but the film is nothing like the title. Then there are titles that are so generic they don't give you a clue about how great the movie is, like Remember the Night. INCREDIBLE movie, very generic title. Know what I mean? 17. I was going to start a thread like this, but I forgot. (sheeping grin) So I'm glad you did. As far as classic movie DVD commentaries, here are some awesome ones, and some fairly awesome ones can I just say that is fantastic, and so is . Awesome commentaries: 1. Roger Ebert's commentary on *Citizen Kane* 2. Norman Jewison's commentary on *Fiddler on the Roof* --really, though, Norman Jewison pretty much always has fantastic commentary 3. Group commentary on *Mary Poppins* Fairly awesome (meaning they say incredibly interesting things, but they take huge pauses) 1. David Raskin on *Laura* 2. John Frankenheimer on *Manchurian Candidate* 3. Peter Bogdonovich on *Bringing Up Baby* I'm sure there are more but that's what comes to mind
  18. Mazeltov, SansFin! You definitely deserved it! And thank you to the wonderful 4 people who voted for me, thus helping me achieve my goal of coming in second. (This way I get to do a schedule next time, you see?) And thanks, Countess, your majesty, for running the schedule. It was a blast and very interesting.
  19. It's a recent movie I know, but I must say a title that REALLY intrigued me was "Ratatouille". I mean, what a cracking great title, from a studio who usually has very plain titles. It says "rat", "France", and "cooking" all in one word!
