I recently got an invite to a prerelease screening of "Alien Trespass", I've to confess it sounds a bit more interesting than when I first heard about it. I like the fact that it's supposedly set in the late 50's.

> I'm with you Bronxgirl give me Donat anytime.
That's the spirit, Catwoman! I can't get enough Donat, either.

The laserdisc is definitely a must-own for fans of "1776", even if, as the jacket indicates, the original negative for all of the additional scenes was destroyed, making it necessary to use the best prints that were available - but which themselves had some degree of deterioration.

I'll check my recording of the Walter Mirisch Private Screenings, I'm not sure if what I remember hearing was in that particular program or somewhere else entirely. And it's also perfectly possible my source on that was not completely accurate, but in either case I'd like to try and make sure I got the facts right.

> It truly was the trip of a lifetime and I'm thrilled to be able to share it with my cyber-friends here at TCM City.
And I'm sure we're all equally thrilled to be reading all of your recollections and those of other TCM fans, you are all terrific TCM fans.

> Billy rocks. Here are my favorites of his:
> Stalag 17
> the apartment
> some like it hot
> sabrina
> seven year itch
> witness for the prosecution
> Double Indemnity
> Ninotchka
> Ball of Fire
> Sunset Blvd
Wilder did get screenplay credit for "Ninotchka" and "Ball of Fire", but to include them among other films directed by Billy Wilder almost seems to take away credit from their directors (Lubitsch for "Ninotchka"and Howard Hawks for "Ball of Fire"). But I _do_ believe Wilder deserves credit for those screenplays, even if he wasn't the one to direct those movies.

There is no doubt, Elwood was a very wise man. Wiser than most of the ones I've known.

I'd say that's unlikely. Those who are most comfortable meeting and getting to know people from all walks of life are usually the more sociable ones.

Well what you say could indeed happen, theoretically. However at the moment there are probably dozens of TCM promos, intros, and short videos on youtube and most of them seem to have been there for months or years. I imagine TCM would have more important things to do than to try to do something that would very likely just annoy its viewers - but of course, I could be wrong. In any event I'm not in any hurry to upload anything to youtube, I'm sure there'll be a lot of other people who'll be doing it in the next couple of weeks.
-
I apologize if someone has mentioned this before, but has anyone else seen this video on youtube?

I believe it was filmed by one of the guest programmers last November.

> CONSARN IT, I missed this.
So sorry to hear that Bronxie. I wish I'd recorded it so I could upload it to youtube.
However, I did find something on youtube that was recorded last November during the guest programmers event. No, I'm not kidding:

I just watched CineMaven's testimonial, what a beautiful person she is!
And watching "Psycho" at Radio City Music Hall? I am totally green with envy.

> CM you were great!!

I agree with you, MovieGoddess! And she has such lovely hair, too!
Anyone who loves Alfred Hitchcock as much as I do is someone worth listening to. B-)

Jerome Robbins was a very talented choreographer, wasn't he? It's almost sad that reportedly he and Robert Wise didn't always get along so well.

>I 100% agree about remking Man of La Mancha---with SINGERS this time. It reminds me of the Pinky and the Brain parody of Man of La Mancha.
I am not familiar with Pinky and the Brain, but in any event, it was rather sad to see such charismatic actors as O'Toole and Sophia Loren stuck in such a joyless effort. They deserved better, and so did audiences.
Hopefully, a new version of this great musical is not an impossible dream.

> ... if it's not too crowded.
Well, some people would say "the more, the merrier".

-
> Thank you for your one vote...
Oh, you're perfectly welcome!

I would totally agree with that, Rick. Barbara Stanwyck would have been very good in "Notorious".

I don't see anything wrong with that hat. What would anyone dislike about it?

Hey, that's a _Murnau_ movie. Aren't you off-topic now?

The Murnau thread is here:

Anyone else catch this TCM premiere today? I just recorded it, and was pleasantly surprised that it stayed letterboxed all the way through. (Inside joke, ok?).
The cast is fairly good for a 70's movie. Oddly enough, I don't think I'd ever heard about it before.
-
You might be right about that. However right now I don't care about how much of an accomplishment it is. I'd just rather watch the better version before the weaker adaptation. Maybe after I've watched both of them I'd be more inclined to discuss the actual accomplishment or lack thereof.

And just what exactly is so wrong with "Force 10 From Navarone"?

I mean, it's obviously nowhere near as good as the original, but it's probably pretty good compared to other action movies being made at that time. And Robert Shaw is always quite compelling, I think. He was really great in almost everything he was ever in.

I really love both Arkadin's and MovieGoddess's noir lists. There are in fact a few titles in each list I am _dying_ to watch again as soon as I get a chance! B-)
