  1. filmlover, baby, I don't want to find myself in the "Why can't that damned TCM ever do anything right?" category, so I'll say no more. Wish they'd air some of these fascinating flicks at a time that works better for me, but then that time probably wouldn' t work as well for someone else. It's all relative (easy catch-phrase, that, sounds kind of conciliatory), and I have other things to concern myself with besides what time TCM screens their movies. Besides, I've used up my quota of complaining for the week with my panties-in-a-knot rant on the "New Websilte" thread ( or whatever it's called.)
  2. mark baby, thanks again for the listing of cool TCM screenings we can groove to (did I get that right?) You know, it's partly due to you that I discovered pre-codes !
  3. lynn, thank you, as I posted on the thread in General Discussions, I followed you advice and found the date and time at the top of the page, which, silly me, I hadn't seen.. Couldn't see for looking, as they say. don't care for the "wallpaper", but your suggestion that it could maybe appear on the homepage forum, but not the individual forums seems like a reasonable compromise.
  4. Well, lynn baby, you were right and I was wrong. I'd already done all that, keyed in the title in the database search field from the TCM home page, etc., BUT ! was so used to the old place where the airing date used to be- which was kind of in its own little field - that I didn't even notice the BIG DATE and TIME at the TOP of the PAGE !! Duh... Clearly I need to cruise around the new site and make friends with it before knotting the underwear. ps -hey, I noticed the "wallpaper" on the message boards is gone. I hope whoever designed that doesn't have hurt feelings. Pretty, but too busy.
  5. Ok, I mentioned this problem on the other thread about the Big Change (not talking about women's time of life issues, nor about any Howard Hawks movies), but apparently I'm supposed to post my concerns here. So I will repeat: There used to be a very fast and convenient way to find out when a movie you wanted to see would be playing. Or not. You'd key in the title in the database "search" field (currently at top right of the screen, same place as before, I think). Your movie would pop up. You'd click the title, and details about the film including the date and time it would be airing on TCM would appear. Disregard the "remind me" function for a minute, that's a separate issue. Let's say I just want to know WHEN the desired film would be playing, without scrolling through two months worth of schedule. It would tell me. Simple as that. Now I don't know how to ascertain the date and time of a movie without a big time-consuming rigmarole. Is this option going to be restored? If there IS some new way to find out this information quickly and easily that I've missed, tell me . Many thanks.
  6. lynn, thanks, but your suggestion (which I have checked out) is all very well, but it doesn't address the problem of just quickly checking out the date and time of the movie I want to see. The "reminder" button (which I did find, thank you) is a related but separate matter. However, when one compares these problems to what has just happened in Japan, they do seem trivial. Must keep things in perspective. Edited by: misswonderly on Mar 11, 2011 12:20 PM
  7. rey, baby, I did read it. That's why I directly addressed Renee, TCM Web Admin, regarding the knotted panties/overly disgruntled poster issue, and how we disgruntled ones need to keep a lid on it (or am I mixing my metaphors? ) I will go to that technical issues thread, but you know what? If they'd thought this one was redundant, they would have locked it by now. I see this as the "venting" thread about it, and the other as the serious "tech" thread. I do think it's interesting that in the space of 48 hours there are 11 pages on this thread ! That's more action than the most controversial thread topic hitherto (since I've been posting here, anyway.)
  8. So ! You're the one who controls the TCM strings ! They're just a puppet, dancing to your tune. I might have known. This explains a lot.
  9. Actually, sorry, it's "Hear MY Train a' Comin' ", which puts, "if you will", a kind of clairvoyant spin on the song. They say Hendrix made many references in his music to his early demise.
  10. That Tanya looks a little like Sandra Bullock. Just sayin' ... Jimi Hendrix, playing a delicious acoustic rendition of Hear That Train A' Comin' . Note the fancy coloured jacket, every bit as flamboyant as those country guys' outfits. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awNJbySHfxw Edited by: misswonderly on Mar 11, 2011 9:30 A It's this frigging new system! I don't know whether I'm coming or going ! Actually, this edit had nothing to do with the new system, just a typo.
  11. Ok, TCM Web Admin, I'll try not to get my panties in a knot. (Isn't that a great expression? ) "However" (you knew that was coming) - another problem...maybe someone has already mentioned this one: it used to be, I could think "Hey, I'd really like to see (fill in movie title here). Wonder if TCM's going to show it anytime soon?" Then I could just key in the film title on the "search" field, and voila, the title (or titles) would pop up on their own screen. I'd select the specific one I wanted (sometimes there'd be more than one, if there had been a remake etc.) and all the info about the film would come up, including the date it would be aired . (If it was not going to aired within a couple of months or so, it would say so. ) Then I could click the " remind me" button, and lo, all the dates would pop up. If I wanted, I could click all of them for reminders. Now, if I don't know the exact date a film is coming up, I have to take the time to go through the whole month's schedule. Case in point: *Caught* . (Wow, I'm dying to see this, Robert Ryan, James Mason, and Barbara Bel Geddes ! rare noir ! ) So I know it's playing this month, I know it's an "Employee's Pick". But when? When I go to the "Employee's Picks" article, it lists the films, including *Caught* , but not when it will be playing. The old system, where I'd just key in the title, would have immediately told me the time and date. Please tell me they're fixing this, if only so I can unknot my panties. 12. > {quote:title=lolarites wrote:}{quote} > I watched an employee (her name was Boardman, I think) pick the movie last night. Her choice was Guess Who is Coming to Dinner. It's one of my favorites. I was shocked at this woman's lack of knowledge of this film and was wondering why she was even picked to to this. Was there that few employees who signed up to do this? It's an important film, ... Wow, that's quite a tirade against someone who picked a movie that you love. I would think you'd be happy that the employee, like you, regards *Guess Who's Coming to Dinner.* as one of her favourite movies. Who would think that would make you angry? So she didn't have the background information regarding Spencer Tracy etc. that you have. ( And maybe she did, she just didn't choose to discuss it). Especially considering how often TCM has been airing this film lately, I'm surprised you weren't delighted with the employee's choice. And if you were, why knock her? ps- this is beside the point, but I quite dislike Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. But, chaquon a son gout. Edited by: misswonderly on Mar 11, 2011 9:14 AM
  13. All these great Barbara Stanwyck flicks ! But why so early in the morning? For me, the world doesn't exist until 8:00 a.m., and I just don't have it together to set up tape/record functions before that. I know, "cry me a river", it's my problem if I 'm not wide awake bright and early. But *Stella Dallas* was on at 4 in the morning, or some ungodly hour! And those Stanwyck pre-codes that I've always wanted to see -why couldn't they have been on in the afternoon, or at least later in the morning? Blah.
  14. > {quote:title=finance wrote:}{quote} > At 6:28 PM, I'm the only user who is not indicated as being "idle". Could that be right? What does "idle" mean? It means the times when you drive up to a coffee shop (in Canada it would be Tim Horton's) and keep your car running while you order your coffee and doughnut (or just coffee if you're calorie- conscious.) You're letting your car "idle" (very bad for the environment .) Conversely, it's when you hang around, watching TCM or posting on these message boards about TCM, when you could be out there, getting in shape for a marathon or mowing your lawn (or the nearest little old lady's lawn) or chopping firewood or helping out in a soup kitchen (do they still exist?) or working on the latest up and coming Great American Novel. I for one am usually engaged in doing all of the above, and at the same time. I am never idle. Not me. Edited by: misswonderly on Mar 10, 2011 9:19 PM
  15. > {quote:title=TCMWebAdmin wrote:}{quote} > I found a Remind Me prompt when clicking on "Expand" while viewing the schedule. > > Just an FYI for now. > -Renee I liked using the "Remind Me" feature. Sorry, Renee, where is this "Expand" button? I clicked on a film I wanted to be reminded about, but did not see any "expand" feature.
  16. fxreyman, thank you for alerting us as to where we can submit our concerns where they will be read by TCM admin. I read Renee's message, and it's helpful -or at least responsive - as far as it goes. I notice that it does not address any complaints about the new format that are not technical. I dislike the graphics and the overall look of both the schedule page and the main forums page. I still think it all looks crowded, "busy", cluttered, whatever word you want to use. And it really does seem like making change for the sake of making change; in what way is it an improvement over what was here before? As to your uneasiness regarding all the new posters, or at least people who may have registered some time ago but have very few if any posts up until yesterday: as I believe both kyle and lz pointed out, a person could be an active user of the TCM website and yet never participate on these boards. Many, as can be seen from the primary concern about these changes, go to the TCM website to check the schedule. For these people, the schedule and its various functions appears to be their main lament. And that is perfectly legitimate; just because they don't post on these forums does not mean they're not engaged in some way with Turner Classic Movies, either the station or the website. Sorry if I'm stating the obvious and also commenting on something that others have already stated here. But, as you know if you've any of my posts on the subject of TCM, I love and support TCM and rarely if ever have a gripe about it, its programming , movie selections, or anything else. But to effect such a major change without any warning or indication that it was coming - hell, they could have solicited members' suggestions on what changes they'd like to see, gotten some feedback about this - does seem like a bit of an affront to its loyal fans, whether they be posters on these boards or people who regularly check the schedule, or whatever. 17. Logical step from Mick Ronson to David Bowie. The idea for this next song courtesy of finance; we all have to adapt to Changes : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xorNjvg1B48 and then everything will be hunky-dory. Edited by: misswonderly on Mar 10, 2011 10:53 AM
  18. And I hate the schedule format too ! Plus, it's much harder to post now. When I click "post message", that notice pops up that says "your message is not saved. Continue or cancel?" The "save " button doesn't work at all anymore, so if you just want to save a draft and post it later, forget it ! The only way I can post is to click the "continue" option, which theoretically means I lose the message. But that seems to be the new way to post ! I really hate this. And as hopefully many of you know, I 'm not usually sympathetic to complaining. What I really want to know -- kyle? lzcutter? anyone? - is, did they tell us they were planning to do this and I just missed it, or is this as much of a surprise to everyone as it is to me? I really think they should have forewarned us they were making these major changes.
  19. Yesterday was Mardi Gras. Here's Paul Simon's ode to that festival: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmS2RkT9UBc
  20. Well, looks like we can "agree to disagree". And that's not always the case on these boards ! And I think we can both agree that the "swinging London" time and place was fun and interesting, and that all the performances were good. (ps -Charlotte Rampling is still pencil slim and still making movies. )
  21. "I'm sorry to say this about my favorite website and by far my favorite movie channel, but to put it bluntly, this amounts to TCM's version of New Coke." I agree 100%. I logged in today and thought I'd somehow ended up on the wrong website. I had no idea this was coming. I try not to be a complainer, but , I hate this ! What was wrong with the old message board the way it was? Now it looks cluttery and confusing. I'm too low-tech to adapt to this ! Seriously, did anyone know they were planning to do this? Did they notify us somehow, and I just missed it? And why did they do it?
  22. I taped *Borderline* ("taped" because I'm a low tech dunce who does not have a DVR), but haven't watched it yet. I've just recently begun to realize how many movies Fred MacMurray was in. Until a few months ago, I thought *Double Indemnity* and *The Caine Mutiny* were his only noteworthy contributions to classic film. What an ignoramus I was ! Back to *Safe in Hell* : Dorothy Mackaill was so pretty, and I love the tough way she speaks in this movie. "Oh yeah? Well I ain't going !" maybe not a direct quote but you get the idea. I also really liked the pretty black woman who sang so lustily as she served out the brandy (? or whatever it was.) Nina Mae McKinney. I looked her up and saw that she was in one or two of the "Whistler" movies, as well as *Pinky*.
