Merle for whatever reason isn't someone I come across often on TCM. I have Wuthering Heights recorded and tried watching it. I must have fallen asleep, because I don't remember anything that happened in it. I watched it before I learned about Merle's attempts to hide her ethnicity. I have seen Merle on the 1974 reunion of MGM stars to promote That's Entertainment. I also knew that she was married to Robert Wolders, who later became Audrey Hepburn's companion.

I haven't. But I saw it was in RedBox. I might rent it as part of my efforts to see all the 2019 Oscar nominated films.

YES! I think it's interesting to see what everyone's "type" is. For example, I'm not really into blonde men or super muscly men. Or men with insanely protruding Adam's Apples. Ugh.

Lol. I think the term "beefcake" is funny. It is the "manly" equivalent to the ladies' "cheesecake" photos, I imagine. In real life, I would never look at a guy and go: "There's a hot hunk of beefcake right there." Though, now that I've said that, I may say that to my husband later when he wakes up. Haha.

I hate when channels or individuals want to pretend that history (or a certain film, song, person, etc.) didn't exist because 50,60,70,80 years later, it no longer aligns with the ideals of modern society. Let me decide what I want to see and take away from the film. Let me choose whether to be offended or to take the opportunity to learn about why blackface (e.g.) existed. Let me look at blackface (e.g.) and decide if I can accept it within the context of the film. I hate it when entities or individuals think that they have the right to make decisions for everyone. There is a lot of that right now on social media, which has encouraged and perpetuated "cancel culture." I appreciate that TCM shows the films has they were originally made, but then also generates original material, such as the race documentary mentioned in the article. TCM uses film to explain a bigger issue: History of race in Hollywood. I love the short documentary TCM made about blackface, which also features the Silent Sunday Night host, Jacqueline Stewart. I would love to see that short documentary expanded upon and made into a full feature. It was very interesting. If I'm watching classic movies, it's either from TCM, a DVD/Blu Ray from the library, or my personal collection. Very rarely I may stream something from Amazon Prime. But I despise watching commercials and try to avoid them at any cost, except if I'm willingly watching regular TV and know that that's part of the deal. It's different though to watch a sitcom with commercials, than to have a stupid pharmaceutical commercial pop-in at the most inopportune time of the film.

I have never seen Gone With the Wind. I'll turn in my classic film fan card at the door on my way out. ::hangs head in shame:: Lol.

I would like to think that everyone has their own personal brand of beefcake. What may be beefcake to one, may not be beefcake to another. The sole intention of this thread was to provide a counter-thread to all the "post pictures of women in bathing suits (e.g)" type threads. Here people can post pictures of men they find to be hot, sexy, etc.

I would like to submit a photo of a young Ralph Meeker, maybe in “Jeopardy” or “Kiss Me Deadly” but I’m on my phone and can’t. He’s my recent discovery, and he’s hot. I’m even planning on watching a freaking Western just to see Meeker.

I never finished Mad Men. When I last stopped watching, Don and Betty had divorced and Betty was with the Senator. I think this is when she was gaining weight as well. I should have finished the series, I really enjoyed it. If I start watching it again, I'd have to start over. John Hamm is always wearing pants that are like one size too small... Things seem to "bulge" out.

I have 741, 742, and 743 all on the DVR waiting to watch.

Lol. I kind of enjoyed the film, in that I liked the idea of the movie and how progressive it was for 1953. But I also really love William Holden, so perhaps that blinded me to the film's faults. I like the part when William Holden calls Maggie McNamara out on her so-called chastity and desire to remain a virgin by telling her essentially that people who are truly committed to remaining pure and chaste usually don't feel the need to advertise their virginity constantly. Which is really true of anything, people who have to work overtime to convince people of something (e.g. the people who CONSTANTLY post about how happy or "blessed" they are in their marriage, usually are miserable) are usually compensating.

Lol. I've only seen Maggie McNamara in The Moon is Blue, but she reminded me of a wannabe Audrey Hepburn. She had a really sad life though, so I don't want to rag on her too much.

Oh. Well I'm glad that Audrey Hepburn won then! Lol. I also like Roman Holiday. EDIT: I'm still happy for Donna.

If Ava should have been nominated for any part she played, it should have been for Night of the Iguana. She was fantastic in that movie. I'm glad Donna Reed beat Ava for the Oscar. I love From Here to Eternity. I can't say the same for Mogambo.

Saturday, February 22 Three Little Words. This is a great biopic musical starring Fred Astaire, Vera-Ellen, and Red Skelton. Fred and Red (lol) play Bert Kalmar and Harry Ruby, respectively, a big songwriting team. They're responsible for Connie Francis' later big hit "Who's Sorry Now?" and Betty Boop's big song "I Wanna Be Loved By You." Debbie Reynolds plays Helen Kane (aka voice of Betty Boop), but the real Kane dubs Reynolds' vocals. My favorite dance number is the domestic "at-home" number between Fred and Vera-Ellen. Sunday, February 23 My personal favorite pick is The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer with Cary Grant, Myrna Loy, and Shirley Temple. A teenaged Temple develops a huge crush on playboy Grant, much to the chagrin of Temple's sister, Judge Loy. I see Mogambo is airing. I *want* to like this movie because I like the cast: Clark Gable, Ava Gardner, and Grace Kelly, but I can't. I've tried watching this movie like 3 times.
