I said "I believe". Well, apparently, I believe wrong. Maybe what I remember is that the critics didn't like it.

The films and career of Vincente Minnelli
DownGoesFrazier replied to Film_Fatale's topic in Films and Filmmakers
MOST of his movies were commercially successful, I believe. They wouldn't have been coming back to him so frequently if they weren't. Just off the top of my head, "Cabin in the Sky", Meet Me in St.Louis", "An American in Paris", "The Bandwagon", "The Bad and the Beautiful", "Gigi", and "Some Came Running" all did relatively well. -
But Cooper was a big guy like Gehrig. Montgomery wasn't very big, was he?

Clue (5)--The screenplay was written by an individual who established a much greater reputation in another medium.

Clue (4)-The actress mentioned in Clue (2) had appeared in a movie almost ten years earlier, in which one of her male co-stars had won an Oscar. That male co-star is also in THIS movie.

I certainly thought it was better than the Warren Beatty remake, "Heaven Can Wait", not to be confused with the Lubitsch "Heaven Can Wait".

A New "Guys and Dolls?" Yikes.

Considering that Sinatra should have been cast in Brando's role, and vice-versa, I can see where you'd think it was lousy. -
