  1. Princess----

Ever hear the expression, "He sounds as if he just stepped OFF THE BOAT"?  Well, my Grandfather on my Father's side had an accent so thick you'd have thought he was STILL ON the boat!  After years of growing up and dealing with it, it helped me to be able to decipher what anyone else was sayng REGARDLESS of how thick whatever accent they had was.

The differing accents in this country alone always fascinates me.  Youcould, if youpaid strict attention, determine WHICH Southern state someone was from based on the accent alone.  Seems each Southern state has it's own distinctive sound.  Georgians sound different from those who hail from Tennessee, as THEY do from the ones from  Mississippi and so on...

There was a black guy I used to work with who, if you closed your eyes, you would have SWORN was Elvis Presley!  Turned out he was from the area of Mississippi that Elvis was born and raised.  "Tupelo was just a few miles away." he told me.

    Sepiatone

Your co-employee must have also said  "Thangyouverymuch" a lot.

  2. DJ is correct that the husband and wife are George C. Scott and Colleen Dewhurst.

JamesStewartFan answered correctly that Campbell Scott is their actor son, but his answer came after DJ's.

Since DJ answered the "husband and wife" part of the question first, I think the thread should be his.

    Husband----Bandleader and accomplished instrumentalist

    Wife---Movie star

  3. Thanks lavender. Great to have you back on the message boards. :)

    Next:

This husband and wife met each other while working together in a  1958 Joseph Papp stage production.

Both the husband and wife are known for portraying very strong characters in theatre, film and TV.

Early in her career, the wife was known as "the Queen of off-Broadway". She was a renowned interpreter of the works of Eugene O'Neill on stage and won a Lead Actress Tony Award for her performance in an O'Neill play.

The husband wore many hats as an actor on stage and in film as well as a stage director and producer. Nominated for two Best Actor Academy Awards, he won one.

The couple were married and divorced twice and have two sons, one a writer and the other an actor.

Name the husband and wife and their actor son.

Off the top of my head-----George C. Scott and Colleen Dewhurst?

  4. Ya know, Arturo. When it comes to knowing this kind'a stuff and in fact a whole mess o' stuff, and your great ability to relay this kind'a info to others in a manner in which is easily understandable, I gotta say you truly are the "magic man" around here, dude.

See how I so smoothly worked a reference to "Heart" into this thing again?! ;)

(...and which I THINK in Spanish would be "Corazón" , RIGHT?!)

After that compliment, I'll bet Arturo is "crazy on you".

  5. Fra-- you're thinking of Pinchas Zukerman and Tuesday Weld

But Lawrence got the correct answer--it is Andre Previn and Mia Farrow.

Pinchas Zukerman is a famous violinist and classical conductor - - I have a number of his records.

Andre Previn is the composer - - he composed classical and jazz music and for Broadway and MGM movies.

Even if you're thinking of someone else --if Lawrence had a correct answer he deserves the thread.

He'll get it if the next guess is wrong. The one I'm thinking of is more obvious than either of the two guesses so far. The couple should be right in your wheelhouse, Princess.

  6. It wasn't local, it was on NBC and it was the 1st Tonight Show.

And my favorite male singer Andy Williams was the third singer that Steve hired.

Fra, This could be the start of something big; you are up--

    Husband---Composer

    Wife-----Film actress

  7. OK, now that it is firmly established that Tiffany is indeed of Puerto Rican ancestry, as stated in the New York Post, May  26, 2016:

"Proud of her Puerto Rican heritage, and raised by her single mom in Bayside, Vazquez is not only just the third host in TCM history, she's also the first woman------and the first person of color."

However, it should also be noted that this is NOT the problem.

How is she a person of color?. She is as white as I am. Many residents of Puerto Rico are Caucasian. I can see her being classified as "Hispanic", but not a "person of color".

  8. This husband and wife first met on a late night TV talk show where they were regulars.

They had a nightclub act as a couple and they also worked as two singles.

When you name this couple, can you also name the late-night TV show where they met?

Steve and Eydie may have met while they were working on Steve Allen's local NY late-night show.

  9. The husband was the leader of an internationally famous rock and roll band of the 1960's.

The wife was in a girl group that had some success on the West Coast.

Much of that success was attributed to her husband who often wrote the music for and produced the recordings of her group.

When your name the couple, can you also name the two groups involved.

    Was this guy an American?

  10. The first thing that comes to mind is Jackie Gleason and his character, The Poor Soul.  That was the basic character he played as a mute janitor in "Gigot", a sort of tribute to Chaplin's "The Kid".

    Correct. Your turn.
