  1. I find her a welcome addition to: TCM.

She is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about a range of movies. I feel this is most important criteria. I believe she embraces spirit of: TCM fan.

I doubt that expense was factor in chosing her rather than an actor. Possibility of scheduling conflicts was most likely main factor. Actors are often in remote locations for weeks while making a movie and introductions must be filmed on regular schedule.

I do not understand those who do not approve of her based on screen presence. Would you object to: S. Hawking presenting science issues because his facial expressions are not animated? Would you object to: Dr, R, Westheimer speaking of intimate matters because she is not hot babe?

I hope that she finds a nice home at: TCM and is with us for many long years.

I believe that she used to be on the TCM boards until she was banned.

  2. "Tiffany Vazquez is the Saturday Daytime host of Turner Classic Movies. She joined TCM in May 2016, becoming the third host hired in the network’s history. Born in Bronx, New York and raised in Queens, Vazquez holds two graduate degrees, one from Saint John’s University in international communications and the other from New York University in cinema studies having interned at the Film Society of Lincoln Center. In 2014 Vazquez entered and won TCM's 20th Anniversary Ultimate Fan Contest, flying to Atlanta to introduce a film of her choice on-air with Robert Osborne. In December 2015, Vazquez hosted TCM's December Spotlight on Girlfriends in the Movies and was tapped to be a roving reporter at the 2016 TCM Classic Film Festival. Vazquez currently works for GIPHY, the world's largest search engine for GIFs, as a senior editor in charge of all film content. Vazquez resides in New York City."

Somehow "Tiffany" and "Vasquez" don't go together, sort of like Cha Cha O'Brien on "Surfside 6".

  3. Don't take this personally, as the comment was based on the individual's personal experience with some of the legal profession......

My Mother used to go on about how she had aspirations for me to one day become a lawyer.  That is she said, until the time in her life came when she finally had to DEAL with one (some legal matter involving my dad and the GM plant he worked at).

After all that she developed a disdain for lawyers, and once quipped, " I'm now kind of glad you didn't become a lawyer.  Then I'd have to tell my friends and other people you were a DRUG DEALER or CHILD PORNOGRAPHER in order to NOT be TOO ASHAMED!"  :D

Personally, I have nothing against attorneys. I've only relied on them a few times in my life, and most were good, others were snakes.  No more or less than most professions.

    Sepiatone

Take it personally? I'm the one who started the anti-lawyer remarks.

  4. Happy 75th birthday, Mr. Dylan.

I am a big fan of his music as a songwriter, a singer, a instrumentalist and as a band member of The Traveling Wilburys.

My favourite songs include Mr. Tamberine Man, Blowing in the Wind, and The Times They Are a Changing.

We've got to get you a stepladder so you can pick some higher-hanging fruit.

  5. Ya know, it's funny, Down that women with amazing physical characteristics get ribbed about them all the time by guys like Hope, but you never see a woman emcee introduce a male who is over-endowed, with such ribbing comments.

I guess I should just let Forrest Tucker rest in peace though. Sorry!

Women who are well-endowed tend to show them off. Men who are well-endowed don't generally have their ****** hanging out.

  6. TCM announced today that Tiffany Vazquez will be the Saturday daytime host of the channel beginning in June 2016.

Ms. Vazquez is a familiar face to TCM fans, having won the TCM Ultimate Fan Contest in 2014 and appeared on-air as a guest programmer with Robert Osborne in April of that year. She was later invited back by TCM to host the channel's December 2015 Spotlight series on girlfriends in the movies. She has also hosted a variety of events at the 2015 and 2016 TCM Classic Film Festivals.

With this announcement, Ms. Vazquez will become only the third permanent host in TCM's twenty-two year history. This move comes as TCM is increasing the workload of Ben Mankiewicz -- he'll still be hosting on Sunday afternoons and various weekday evenings -- and simultaneously preparing for the imminent retirement of Robert Osborne -- though nothing official has been announced on that score yet, the writing has been on the wall for some time.

You can read more about Tiffany Vazquez here: https://www.turner.com/pressroom/tiffany-vazquez.

So she's just a viewer who has had a meteoric rise? What does she do for a living?

  7. Lawrence

Steve really did have a beautiful voice, as you say, Princess. Why I played my grandma's 45 rpm single of "Pretty Blue Eyes" just the other day and thoroughly enjoyed his vocalizing.

Eydie on the other hand, well my grandpa, the musician used to say Steve sounded marvy, but Eydie sounded a bit flat.

Kind of like a sour June Christy.

June Christy's "Midnight Sun" is one of the best jazz vocals ever.

  8. Down, I certainly agree with your assessment of Frankie's song as being one of the worst.

But how could you forget that Elvis did the immortal song, "Look Out, Broadway" with the following lyrics about NY? I mean, it is just such a classic.:

    LOOK OUT, BROADWAY

We never got discouraged, we never had a doubt

'Cause sooner or later talent must win out

Look out Broadway, we're comin' fast

Now we're gonna see our names in lights at last

No more hot dogs at Sloppy Joe's

We're gonna dine on steak and wine at Delmonico's

Rich or poor it's great to have dough

    That's one thing we know

Lots of fun, lots of laughs

Signing cheques and contracts and autographs

    We're up for N E W Y O R K

    Look out, look out Broadway

I wanna see all the hustle and bustle

Maybe I can get a date with Lilian Russell

I want to go out with Diamond Jim

Yeah, if he gives you a diamond what will you give to him

Blow the trumpets and beat on the drum

    Big time here we come

No more cheap hotels and one night stands

We'll knock Tin Pan Alley flat on its pans

They'll see that we've got class with a capital K

    Look out, look out Broadway

    Look out

You've got me this time. I have no idea whether this was a real song or whether you just composed it on the spot.

  9. I caught most of Hoop Dreams on TCM on Peabody Award night.  I had seen it before and it was really good; a documentary about two boys from tough Chicago neighborhoods who want to be in the NBA.  The movie follows them from like junior high to college.  It wasn't eligible for a documentary Oscar because it had premiered on HBO, I believe (I think it came out in 1994).  But a couple of years ago on one of the cable TV stations there was a countdown of all the top documentaries from the last 20-25 years or so and Hoop Dreams came in at #1.  Well-deserved.  I am recording Wallace with Gary Sinise (directed by John Frankenheimer) later on for future viewing.

I preferred to watch the real thing, an NBA playoff game live.

  10. DGF said: So what else is new? Nobody likes lawyers, no matter what their specialty. In movies, and out of movies.

I am often amazed at how the average person has disdain for lawyers as well as local politicians. My family is full of lawyers and 99% of what they do is basic paperwork, providing legal service, protecting their clients. They very rarely do big trial cases like the movies. But boy, the public sure pounces on that, don't they?

And I served on a City Council and was often blasted for being a "politician". Really, my motivation was help the city I loved be better for all. Most who enter politics and law enforcement feel this way. Believe you me, it's a time & energy drain with very little reward.

The divide between those who hate the police and those who feel police are there for their own protection is often contingent upon whether THEY have called police, or if the police have been called ABOUT them.

Did I mention that I am a lawyer?

  11. No, viewers root for passionate attorneys -- mostly public defenders who fight the good fight in difficult cases. That was the case with Frank Galvin (Paul Newman) in "The Verdict." He overcame his shyster past and redeemed himself by taking on a noble cause.

Your "passionate public defenders" are about 1% of all attorneys. (I should know).

  12. Boy, you got that one right! I immediately thought of "The Verdict" (1982) and James Mason's machine-like legal team that was akin to the Dallas Cowboys' multiple offense of the 1970s and early 1980s.

So what else is new? Nobody likes lawyers, no matter what their specialty. In movies, and out of movies.
