I think I read somewhere that Colonel Parker was actually in the US illegally and that's why Elvis never tour outside the states because if Parker was caught he wouldn't be able to come back.
Elvis would have brought down the house in Minsk.

I know this is not what you're looking for, but BYE BYE BIRDIE was really about Elvis going into the Army.
This question is dying on the vine.

Maybe you have to be part of the TCM Drug Ring
The entry into THAT club costs a lot more than $69.

There's always some killjoy to mess things up.
Let them try something with the TCM Opioid Club.
I received an invitation to join the TCM Opioid Club, but I wouldn't belong to any club that would have me as a member.

Fra-- Judy Garland has two daughters in Show Business who are both great singers. Were you referring to Lorna or Liza?
The latter.
-
Yes, TCM, "EVERY, EVERY, EVERY, EVERY year." (!) How can you do that? Although it has been correctly pointed out that each of the three in question, Miss Box Office Poison, Miss Over-The-Top, and Miss Unnattractive have not been SOTM more than three times each in the 20 year history of TCM. Well, that's almost EVERY year! So come on, TCM, cut it out.
The OP graciously avers that Judy Garland could at least "sing," but it might behove TCM, when showing her films, to cut out all scenes where she has to act because, you know, she is so unattractive. Box Office Poison like Joan Crawford might be better eschewed. We can't have someone like that (never mind her marvelous career). Bette should be summarily dismissed despite the fact that she is over-the-top par excellence. They don't call her Queen of Camp for nothing. For her it is an accolade. Most actresses who are over-the-top are shallow and quickly gone. Not Bette. She defined it, it's a large part of her greatness.
And please, TCM, refrain from destroying days by showing a movie or a genre of movies that I don't like. I'm sick and tired of having my days destroyed. Why a couple of months ago I had 14 days of my life destroyed in one month because you continued to show stuff I don't like.
Jeez...

Since you (or whoever made the comment about Judy's unattractiveness) are being so insulting, let me climb on the bandwagon by stating that, compared to her daughter, Garland was a veritable Hedy Lamarr.

Fra-- it's true that Terry produced Thr Byrds at Columbia Records, but that's not how he made all that money.
Terry made all that money producing Paul Revere and the Raiders. He knew that Paul Revere and the Raiders were a Good Thing. Have you got Good Thing, Kicks or Hungary on your playlist?
I've got all three, though I've never been to Budapest.

My favorite is Information, Please! That way I can keep up
with the latest news about TCM Inner Circle, TCM Wine
Club, and TCM Back Lot.
The people in the TCM Inner Circle were having a wine party on the TCM Back Lot, until the security guard shooed them away.

Name at least 3 rock/pop music biopics that didn't use the artists real names.
I know this is not what you're looking for, but BYE BYE BIRDIE was really about Elvis going into the Army.

From The Bat Whispers through Hollywood Cowboy, TCM is honoring the great character actress Maude Eburne (1875-1960) tomorrow morning. This is my favorite kind of TCM programming -- focusing on the lesser known stars who made the films great.

Lesser known? Her name doesn't sound the slightest bit familiar.

Yikes, you read my mind, Down.
Now we are one brain, separated by two bodies apparently.
You did know the Colonel's real name, right?
Andreas Cornelis van Kuijk.
No wonder he never wanted Elvis to tour Holland.
I think you're tilting at windmills.

I started watching AAE and even though I've seen it numerous times, and own the dvd I could not stop.
Probably the greatest amount of repartee in films!
The bit where Bette spars with Gary and Hugh after the "understudy" reading with Marilyn Monroe still holds up today as the most sarcastic interplay in film for my money.
Loved seeing Bess Flowers congratulate Eve at the Sarah Siddons award, as usual.
Is there ACTUALLY a Sarah Siddons award?

I've noticed TCM has started running TCM Backlot commercials.........
..also known as the "pay to play" commercials.

I'd be chicken to go out with him.
That white suit reminds me of the one in the Alec Guinness film.
I cry fowl!
Well, then, Colonel Tom Parker will have to suffice. You can say, "thanguverymuch".

Partly, yes.
Ben Mankiewicz was filling in for Robert during all of March and April, but due to a scheduling conflict Ben was not able to record all of this month's wraparounds. Ben will still be hosting several nights of the week himself, but there will also be some guest hosts throughout the month filling in for Robert prior to his return to on-air duties, which is scheduled for next month.
Madeline Stowe was previously TCM's guest programmer in September 2013. So expect subsequent guest hosts to be other 'friends of TCM'.
If you pay the $69, does that make you a "friend of TCM"?

I like to stay in General Discussions since I've always wanted to meet a military man with a high ranking.
Alas, so far no go.
I did meet General Electric on a Film Noir board, but he was a dim bulb.
I'd like to set you up with Colonel Sanders.

At least they weren't in Korean... ;p
I can't comment on Mockery (the movie) yet, since it's sitting on the DVR, but I suspect that Mockery (the multi-threaded-dream-posts) might have something to do with the general slowness of the board over the last day or so - sometimes it takes an age for a page to load, or a post to show up.
Right. It's not really worth the trouble to post, Bye for now.

You multiple threads e
Having never seen the Lon Chaney film "Mockery" I awaited it with anticipation last evening. It was worth the effort, and Chaney gave a performance worthy of a Dostoevsky novel's lead character.
As the peasant, Sergei who saves the life of Countess Tatiana, his ability to change slowly into the more cynical adversary for her love was masterfully conveyed. Chaney acts internally and performs with his whole body, but in very subtle gestures which would not be out of tune with even an actor today. One can feel his emotions even when only watching him from the back. The downtrodden nature of his innocent peasant character comes through the screen magnificently due to Chaney's visual mannerisms which probably are heightened due to his silent screen experience.
I also enjoyed seeing a very young Ricardo Cortez and Mack Swain. The only thing I did not like was the title, since "Mockery" did not seem to really typify the plot.
Anyone else watch?
Your multiple threads entitled "Mockery" are making a mockery of these boards.
