Despicable. That's a good example. It's one of my favorite musicals, but I don't particularly care for those stereotypes, either. What is sad is that people probably didn't see anything wrong with that back in the 50s. -
Arturo, Thank you for your kind comments. I have to say I'm sure you're absolutely right, and I think that audiences in the 50s would indeed have liked to see this cast in a magnificent widescreen western, very very much. Perhaps I should have been more precise in saying exactly why I think the movie is not as highly regarded today as perhaps it should be - I certainly enjoyed it quite a bit.

Looks like my favorite trilogy of spaghetti westerns is finally coming out in a blu-ray set - just read this in the digitalbits.com website: Fox and MGM are officially releasing *The Man with No Name Trilogy* on Blu-ray Disc here in the States on 6/1 (SRP $69.99). The 3-disc set will include *A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More* and the previously released *The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly*. Most (if not all) the extras from the previous DVD editions will likely be included. Scroll down for a look at the cover art.

Fun facts about Brian Keith ("Tight Spot"): * Birth name: Robert Keith Richey Jr. * Best remembered on TV for his starring role as Uncle Bill Davis on "Family Affair" (1966). * Shortly before future "Family Affair" (1966) co-star, Johnny Whitaker, co-starred with him, he appeared in the movie *The Russians Are Coming the Russians Are Coming* (1966), where Keith was so impressed by Johnny's acting that he invited him to co-star in Keith's new sitcom, the same year. -

I am still trying to figure out how there could be more than one way to say "Chico" in English. As far as I know there's only one way to say "chico" in Spanish. -
Oh, you're welcome. I really recommend this movie, which I saw for the first time about a year ago at a film noir festival. Right away, I thought it was one of the better "forgotten" noirs I had ever seen, and really started hoping it would be released on DVD at some point in the future. It's a funny thing, because this was a Warner Bros. release, theatrically, but I guess Warner doesn't own the rights to it any more. I take it you have never seen it?

This great noir is finally coming out on video! From classicflix: VCI has set a June 29th release date for *New York Confidential* (1955). The much sought after noir stars Broderick Crawford, Richard Conte, Marilyn Maxwell, Anne Bancroft and J. Carrol Naish. It will be presented in its original aspect ratio (1.85:1) and comes with plenty of bonus features. The kill-or-be-killed world of organized crime is the focus of this hard-hitting expose from the Oscar-nominated writing team of Russell Rouse and Clarence Greene. Broderick Crawford is the NYC mob boss dealing out death as the answer to every crisis--from a minor member of his own syndicate, to a Washington lobbyist, to his own hired killers! BONUS FEATURES: * Narrative commentary by Alan Rode * Tough Customers: Crawford, Conte, Naish, Mazurki: Narrative with stills/clips about this quartet of legendary noir baddies * Anne Bancroft, Unlikely Femme Fatale: Chronological narrative with stills on the early part of her film career as a femme fatale sexpot * Feature on Russell Rouse, producer, director, writer, of D.O.A., The Thief, The Well, NYC, and Wicked Woman. * Original Theatrical Trailer

I hadn't heard that story - but it sounds a lot like Ford. Well, it may not be his finest movie, but I'm glad TCM still shows it from time to time.

Oh, I already forgot which ones they have for June - I'll better take another look at that schedule.
