  1. Fun facts about Glenn Ford: * Birth name: Gwyllyn Samuel Newton Ford * Was half Welsh, his mother was from Pontypridd in south Wales. * According to a biography of Sam Peckinpah, Ford was considered for Robert Ryan's role in *The Wild Bunch* (1969).
  2. William Holden was in Golden Boy with Barbara Stanwyck
  3. Elke Sommers was in A Shot in the Dark with Peter Sellers
  4. Don't forget - Two Rode Together is coming up on TCM right after Pepe.
  5. I could be wrong about this, but I believe an "archival" print is one that has never been used for a commercial engagement; in other words, a print that has pretty much sat in an archive almost since the time it was struck. In other words, it will have been spared the usual wear and tear of the prints that are regularly sent out to theaters, shown in revival engagements, etc. As far as I know, the archival print is the next best thing to a brand new print, except in cases of prints that were struck with systems not used anymore, like dye-transfer or something like that.
  6. Jean Hagen was in Latin Lovers with Ricardo Montalb?n
  7. That's another great photo, C.! They were two beautiful blondes, alright. :x
  8. Awwww, that's so cute, you thought of Tinkerbell! I don't know how much of this is true or not, but I hear that the Disney animators were heavily influenced by Marilyn Monroe when they drew the character.
  9. I have Pepe on the background and I guess I just now realized that most of this movie was filmed in Los Angeles!
  10. stjohn, I'm so glad you got the DVD and enjoyed it all over again! This is imho a pretty underrated movie, wish more people knew about it. Of course I still think it would have been even better if they hadn't replaced Peter Lawford with Bing Crosby, but that's just a small quibble for me.
  11. I looked around for a thread about Two Rode Together but didn't find any - at least not within the last year. This is one of John Ford's most overlooked westerns, probably right up there with Sergeant Rutledge, and it is also one of the very few Ford talkies that isn't available on DVD. Luckily, TCM shows it today as part of the Shirley Jones birthday tribute: *Two Rode Together* (1961) 11am ET Two tough westerners bring home a group of settlers who have spent years as Comanche hostages. Cast: James Stewart, Richard Widmark, Shirley Jones, Linda Cristal Dir: John Ford C-109 mins, TV-PG Both Stewart and Widmark are great in this movie, and a long clip from one of their scenes together is even included in Peter Bogdanovich's Directed by John Ford.
  12. *_WEDNESDAY, MARCH 31_* *The True Story of Jesse James* (1957) 12pm ET Biopic of the notorious robber brothers Frank and Jesse James. Cast: Jeffrey Hunter, Hope Lange, Alan Hale, Agnes Moorehead. Director: Nicholas Ray
  13. I can't believe nobody has mentioned my beloved Barbara Stanwyck. In westerns such as The Furies and Forty Guns, she was without parallel. I haven't seen any of "The Big Valley" but I'm sure she was great in that, too.
