Thank you very much for sharing your review with us, cigarjoe. I remember seeing this not too long ago, probably on DVD, and while I enjoyed it I thought perhaps I hadn't fully appreciated all that the movie had to offer. Your suggestion that it is a good western for multiple viewings is very much appreciated. Plus, the cast is so good it probably can't help to be a pleasure to watch it again.
  2. I must have missed this the last time it was on. And now, it's not scheduled for the next 3 months. Well, I guess I can always try to find the blu-ray...
  3. Those are all good ones, but I would have included some Beatles films, maybe A Hard Day's Night and Yellow Submarine - and both are great, as songs OR movies.
  4. Greer Garson was in Random Harvest with Ronald Colman

The video quality is outstanding...esp. like I said, the black and white films Oddly enough, I've been waiting until TCM-HD was offered through DirecTV to update my receiver/DVR to an HD one. (I already have a blu-ray player). Why I decided to do that, I don't know. Looks like I'm missing out on a good thing with MGM-HD.
  7. Thank you arlene! Fun facts about Buster Keaton: * Birth name: Joseph Frank Keaton VI * He is believed to be the first person to use "Buster" as a name, and popularized its usage ever after. * Fractured his neck while filming *Sherlock Jr.* (1924) and did not learn about it until a doctor saw X-rays of his neck during a routine physical examination many years later. * When he married Natalie Talmadge, the Talmadge family was one of the great acting dynasties in both theater and film, and the gossip in Hollywood was that Keaton married her to gain respect in the industry, a rumor he never quite lived down during his peak. Ironically, Keaton is now a film legend, while most people would be hard-pressed to answer who the Talmadges are.
  8. > {quote:title=PSMark wrote:}{quote} > Where are Ted Turner's millions when his namesake movie channel needs them? > Thoughts? anyone? PSMark, Ted Turner doesn't own TCM (or Turner Broadcasting for that matter) any more. It's all owned by Time-Warner. Also, they've already started the conversion to TCM-HD, in fact some subscribers already receive it, although at the moment it's only an upconverted signal, if I understand correctly. They have, however, stated they have every intention of going fully HD in the near future - possibly 1-2 years.
  9. They actually went straight to the Alice in Movieland short, which is aprox. 22 minutes.

Is it possible that the commercial was attached to the digital print that TCM ran? I just rewound my DVR, the commercial was sandwiched between a promo for "The Essentials" and one for the TCM Film Festival. It appeared at approximately 57 minutes past the hour
  11. Yes that would be something else, alright. Fun facts about Ann Sheridan: * Birth name: Clara Lou Sheridan * Appeared under her real name through 1935. * Warner Bros. was eager to portray Ann as a "Girl about town," so her contract demanded that she hit the nightclubs at least three times a week.

TCM means a lot to so many of us, I wish we could all just put our differences aside and focus on what we all share - love for the classics.
  14. Thank you for sharing that, coopsgirl, that was beautiful. (I think TCM should hire you to edit some promos for them, too, but maybe you're too much in demand?)

  17. I'm just as concerned as anyone - but if they keep it to commercials between movies, I could live with it. Just a sign of the times, I guess.
