  1. Awww, lucky you! When I think "redheads in cinema" one of the first one to come to mind is the great Moira Shearer:
  2. Rebecca wasn't one of his best films, by any means, but it was a pretty good Hollywood debut - especially given the contentious relationship with Selznick, which he never really was comfortable with.
  3. Hi arlenemccarthy, and welcome to the forums I think John Ford was a comparatively enlightened man for a man of his time, considering both his approach to female characters as well as to Native Americans (though that's another topic). From what I've read he was very fond of his mother, which may help explain why he sometimes presented female characters in an exalted way.

I'll second that. He'd be another great SOTM.
  5. Joan Crawford was in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? with Bette Davis
  6. Cary Grant was in The Grass is Greener with Jean Simmons
  7. Edmund Gwenn was in Between Two Worlds with John Garfield

  9. Marni Nixon was brought in to My Fair Lady to dub Audrey Hepburn
  10. Carl Rainer was in It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World with Spencer Tracy
  11. I believe you're right about that, finance. sineaste - I haven't watched The Street with no Name yet, but I recently got the DVD so I hope to be watching it soon.
  12. Well, there are more pressing concerns than finding out what's going to be on TCM in June, I agree. Still, if you're a movie buff, what else do you have to look forward to, when it comes to stuff to do in your spare time?
  13. So this morning I have been watching the great 1952 RKO film *Androcles and the Lion*. This is probably one of the better 50s movies that I don't recall having seen on TCM (if it was shown at some point in the past, I missed it). At least now it is available on DVD, thanks to Criterion's Eclipse label, as part of a boxset of movies based on the works of George Bernard Shaw. This is a fairly interesting movie, with a good cast, headed by Jean Simmons and Victor Mature, and very good supporting performances by Elsa Lanchester, Robert Newton, and Maurice Evans, who is great as Caesar. I don't really know much about Alan Young, who plays the title character, but he's very good, too! The special effects in shots showing Androcles with the lion are fairly obvious, but they didn't detract from my enjoyment of the film.

  15. I hope that doesn't mean it's too soon for her to be considered for SOTM again soon...
